Types of Cable Clamps

When it comes to cable clamps, there are many different types to choose from. There are cushion clamps, adjustable clamps, and special heavy-duty cable clamps. Each has different functionalities and can be used for different applications. There are even Omega Clips that are used to bundle multiple wire clamps.

Current Clamp

A current clamp is used to measure the current flowing through a cable or conductor. It produces an analogue output, which can be read using a voltmeter, oscilloscope, or power analyser. This type of clamp is an excellent choice for testing electrical cables because it allows you to measure the current without changing the cable or conductor. In addition, current clamps are highly accurate, with better than one per cent accuracy for high-end models.

A common current clamp is composed of a split ring made of ferrite or soft iron, with a wire coil wound around one or both halves. The wire coil forms one winding of the current transformer, while the conductor forms the other. These clamps are useful for measuring AC and DC currents, and many are used in laboratories to test electrical wiring. RS PRO clamps are known for their superior performance and offer UKAS certification.

Hose Clamp

A hose Cable Clamp is a tool that holds a cable line. These tools are available in different sizes and materials. Some are made of stainless steel, carbon steel, or plastic. The plastic versions are cheaper and offer corrosion resistance. Metal versions are generally stronger. Extra-large versions are available for larger assemblies.

Another name for this tool is a jubilee clip. This name has become synonymous with this type of tool. They secure the hose over a fitting and help to prevent leakage. They are typically used in the automotive and plumbing industries but can be used in many other settings. They are particularly useful when handling gases, chemicals, and liquids.

Compression Clamp

A compression clamp is a device that is used to secure a cable. It consists of a retaining bracket, cap screws and hexagon nuts. There are two types of compression clamps. One type is designed to secure one or two pairs of fibre drop wires. The other type supports cables in which the strands are separable.

Compression Cable Clamp - Standard

A cable compression clamp can be made from steel, stainless steel, or vinyl coating. It can be adjusted to fit different cable sizes, and it is also adjustable to fit different cable diameters. These clamps can be used for both light and heavy-duty applications. Some are also made to withstand heat and chemicals.

Suspension Clamp

Cable clamps help control the movement of cables suspended on poles and towers. They can be of different designs, including ones for fibre cables. They are commonly used in big systems that use a lot of fibre cables and need to maintain their position. A cable clamp can help prevent the cables from shifting or being damaged.

A typical suspension cable clamp comprises a body, straps, and a clamping assembly. The body is made of an aluminium alloy which is strong and corrosion resistant. Straps transfer load to the insulator string and washers complete the connections. The material of the clamp is important because it must be compatible with the conductor. Generally, steel alloys and high-strength aluminium alloys are used. Bolts and washers are made of corrosion-resistant steel.

Galvanized Cable Clamp

Galvanized Cable Clamps are used to secure and enclose cables. These clamps have a heavy-duty design, are made of galvanized steel and feature a U-bolt and two nuts for secure mounting. They are perfect for marine rigging applications. These cable clamps are available in a variety of sizes and are a good choice for securing cable loops.

Galvanized cable clamps come in two shapes: U-bolt and double saddle. Each design offers unique mechanical properties.

Modular Omega Clip

The Modular Omega Clip cable clamp is a versatile clamping system, offering a variety of cable clamping options to suit all types of cables. The cable clamping system features an adjustable clamping mechanism that allows the bundle diameter to be adjusted independently. This feature eliminates the need for cable ties and helps to prevent detachment.

The clamp assembly can be mounted on the cable before insertion. In addition, it can be mounted to the closure by a variety of mounting methods. For example, one mounting method mounts the cable clamp assembly to the upper portion of the gel seal block, which is located within the enclosure's interior.
