When you wake up, if you have pain or stiffness in your neck, this can be a sign that you are not using the correct pillow.
Typically, we never recommend soft pillows. This is because they are not able to provide adequate support to the neck and head when you are sleeping. Due to this, your muscles are going to contract slightly in order to provide the support they are not getting. Resulting in your neck feeling stiffness and tiredness in the morning when you wake up.
On the other hand, you don’t want a pillow that is too thick. The thickness matters in order to provide proper support. If you are primarily a side sleeper, we do recommend that you use a thicker pillow. If you are primarily a back sleeper, we recommend using a thinner pillow. The reasoning for this is to make sure your neck and head are in a neutral position while you are sleeping.
Furthermore, while you are sleeping, it is important to ensure your pillow is snug with your shoulders. Make sure there is no space between the bottom of your pillow and the top of your shoulders. The reason for this is because this is what is going to support your head and neck when you are sleeping.
