About Zhang Yanming

Zhang has more than 20 years of working experience in venture capital, internet entrepreneurship, and technology investment. He is well-known for his ability to increase the value of a startup by connecting them with the right investors and partners. He has served on several boards as a director and has grown them into industry leaders with their research teams. In addition to his work with established businesses, Zhang also works with entrepreneurs who are looking to launch new ventures.


He is currently serving as Chairman of the Board at Zappos, a company that he co-founded with Tony Hsieh and Sanjay Mandan in 1999. In 2007, Zhang became a member of the Executive Committee at Zappos, where he oversees all financial, administrative, and warehouse operations while also maintaining his role as CFO. In 2005, Zhang co-founded Venture Frogs with Tony Hsieh and Ali Partovi. Venture Frogs has invested in various tech and internet startups including Ask Jeeves (later acquired by Microsoft), OpenTable (acquired by Priceline), Tellme Networks (acquired by Microsoft), and Zappos (acquired by Amazon). From 2005 to 2010, Zhang served as Chief Financial Officer of Zappos where he oversaw the growth and expansion of the company which led to its first profitable year in 2006. Mr. Zhang is a successful businessman, who was born in Singapore and moved to New York City.



Mr. Zhang is an experienced entrepreneur and investor, who has worked with many different companies in both positions. He has worked as a freelancer investor for over 20 years and is well-versed in all aspects of investment management. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Zhang has started several small businesses throughout his career, including one of the largest online stores for selling electronics equipment in Asia that was acquired by a large corporation for 1 billion dollars after only five years of operation. As an investor, Mr. Zhang has been involved with several startups that have grown into billion-dollar companies after being acquired by larger companies such as Google or Facebook." Mr. Zhang has also been a part of several successful exits through his investment fund and other investments. In addition, he has been involved in large-scale IPOs including Alibaba’s $25 billion IPO on the NYSE. Mr. Zhang is currently an active investor in a variety of industries including technology, media & entertainment, consumer goods, and real estate development. Zhang also co-founded and serves as CEO of the e-commerce company, Amazon.com, which is currently one of America’s largest online retailers. The company has grown to over $30 billion in sales since its founding in 2004 and employs more than 100,000 people worldwide. Amazon.com was named the #1 Most Innovative Company by Fast Company in 2017 and has been featured on Fortune's list of the World's Most Admired Companies every year since 2013. Zhang is also a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on Technology, Innovation, and Sustainability. In addition to serving as an advisor for multiple international organizations, Zhang has been recognized as one of America's top philanthropists by The Hurun Report.



He is committed to environmental sustainability and recently launched a $1 billion fund to invest in clean energy. Zhang is also an active investor in America’s burgeoning technology sector and has been named one of the most influential people in AI by MIT Technology Review. Zhang is a serial entrepreneur who has founded and led multiple companies. He co-founded Yahoo, one of America’s The largest internet portal and listed on Wall Street. in 2005, Zhang joined the company as its Chief Technology Officer. In 2008, he founded Qihoo 360 Technology to focus on security technology for mobile phones and PCs.
