Christmas Chronicles- The legend of Christmas trees

While the fall season has started to lurk around the corner, people have already started anticipating Christmas spirits in their full glory. Real Xmas trees in Singapore symbolise faith, hope and harmony among all mankind. Whether it is about soothing your distressed winter nerves during Christmas with the fragrance, or it is about decorating your home with life during the lifeless winter environment, Christmas trees go a long way. When everyone is excited about Christmas, we thought, we would set the record straight by uncovering the legend of the Christmas tree.

The legends started like this…

Evergreen trees have been brought indoors to celebrate winter festivities for thousands of years, both by Pagans and Christians. During the winter solstice, pagans would use tree branches to adorn their dwellings as a sign of the approaching spring.

Romans also used fir trees to decorate their temples during the Saturnalia festival, while Christians viewed them as a symbol of eternal life with God. The custom of adorning Christmas trees is also widely linked to Germany, where many Christians first started doing so. Those without access to trees or those who couldn't afford them would create their own inventive substitutes using wooden pyramids.

Early Christmas trees in Germany featured wonderful edible ornaments like gingerbread men and apples wrapped in gold (glass makers would also innovate small ornaments and hang them on their tree as a decorative that they had crafted themselves).

Who brought the first Christmas Tree into their home?

Martin Luther, a pastor in the 16th century, is known to have been among the first to bring a Christmas tree inside his house and decorate it with lights. The night before Christmas, Martin is said to have been walking through the woods when he looked up to see the brilliant stars sparkling through the tree branches. He set up a tree in his living room and strung its branches with lovely lights in an effort to recreate this image for his family.

What does the Christmas tree represent?

Plants and trees held a unique significance for many people during the chilly winter months long before Christianity. Ancient tribes used to beautify their homes by hanging evergreen boughs across their entrances; many even held the belief that doing so could ward off witches, evil spirits, and sickness.

Pope John Paul referred to the Christmas tree as a "symbol of Christ" back in 2004. He claimed that this age-old custom elevates the worth of life and serves as a reminder to Christians of the biblical allegory of the "tree of life" contained in Genesis.

Conclusion

In addition to their traditional and aesthetic benefits, real Xmas trees in Singapore have many environmental perks as well. They increase up to 1 ton of carbon dioxide over their lifetime which makes them an excellent air purifier for your home. While artificial trees look phoney and pathetic at a budget-friendly price range, the charm of a real coniferous Christmas tree cannot be matched by any synthetic tree.
