An esthetician is a professional who provides skin care services. Estheticians are trained in the use of tools and products to clean, exfoliate, and massage the skin. They may also provide facials, waxing, and other body treatments. In order to become an esthetician, one must complete a state-licensed cosmetology or aesthetics program. The length of these programs can vary from four months to two years. Upon completion of the program, the esthetician must pass a state licensing exam.

There are many benefits to becoming an esthetician. For example, estheticians have the ability to work in a variety of settings, such as salons, day spas, resorts, and medical offices. They also enjoy flexible hours and the opportunity to build their own clientele. However, there are some drawbacks to the profession as well. For instance, estheticians typically earn less than other professional groups in the beauty industry such as hairstylists and makeup artists. In addition, since estheticians work closely with clients, they may be exposed to contagious diseases. Despite these challenges, many people find that becoming an esthetician is a rewarding career choice.
