How to Apply for Global Talent Visa Australia from India

Launched in November 2019, the Global Talent Visa (GTI) is a priority processing pathway for highly talented and skilled professionals seeking to migrate to Australia. It’s a permanent residency pathway that neither requires an Australian employer to sponsor you nor high scores in the Australia PR points calculator system. With the global talent visa, Australia hopes to attract the best and the brightest talent worldwide.

What is a Global Talent Visa?

The Global Talent Visa for Australia is designed for skilled migrants who excel in one of the ten targeted sectors in Australia. The pathway extends the current Global Talent (Subclass 858) visa. The Global Talent Visa aims to attract foreign nationals with a globally recognized record of achievement in any of the domains – academics, sports, research, and professional research.

In the Global Talent visa, the government of Australia has deployed ‘Global Talent Officers’ across several locations in Australia to invite the most suitable workers to apply for the visa. Each officer has their country to manage immigration applications and attend seminars to promote the global talent visa.

Potential immigrants seeking to enter Australia through this program must lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). Successful applicants will get a unique identifier and be invited to apply for the Global Talent visa program. Applications approved under the GTI pathway will get priority processing compared to other visa categories. DHA has allotted 15,000 places under the GTI category for 2022-23.

To qualify for the global talent visa, applicants must prove they are prominent leaders in their domain. They should bring economic and social benefits to Australia. The applicant must also demonstrate that they have no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia or working independently in their chosen sector.

Targeted Sectors under the Global Talent Independent Program

Below is the list of ten targeted sectors under the GTI program:

  • Resources;
  • Agri-food and AgTech
  • Energy
  • Health Industries
  • Defence, Advanced Manufacturing and Space
  • Circular economy
  • Digitech
  • Infrastructure and tourism
  • Financial services and Fintech
  • Education

In addition to this, the Department of Home Affairs also intends to target students with a research background relevant to the above-mentioned targeted industries. It also includes students who have either completed Ph.D. or in the process of completing their theses in the last three years.

The most significant thing about the global talent independent program is that it is not a point-tested streaming, meaning you need not to calculate your Australia PR points before submitting the visa application.

Who is eligible to apply for a Global Talent Visa?

To be eligible for the Global Talent Independent program, you must

  • Be a recognized leader fit in one of the above ten targeted sectors.
  • Demonstrate that you will be able to attract a salary which is equivalent to the Fair Work High Income Threshold, which is currently AUD $158,500, or
