The word "chadar" describes the sheet of ice that forms over the Zanskar river throughout the winter as it changes from a swiftly running river to a white blanket of ice. It transforms into a frozen sight of glass ice that may be viewed during the brief times when sunlight penetrates the gorge directly to the milky whitish on a moonlit night - as stated, a trek journey unlike any other. Along the frozen Zanskar River, Chadar connects Chilling (on the way to Leh) with communities in the deep mountain Zanskar valley.

Day 1:

Leh, the second-largest district in the nation, is located more than 3500 metres above sea level. You will be flown to the Leh airport, which holds the distinction of being the highest airport in the world, during the winter months when the majority of the passes leading to Leh are closed.

You will be met with dry and cold air as soon as you touch down at the airport, but what will capture all of your attention is the tall, snow-capped mountains all around—a scene that will stay with you forever. Take a taxi to the pre-arranged accommodation after finishing the airport formalities and collecting your luggage from the baggage claim area.

Day 2:

Get up early and start the acclimatisation process for high altitude. Continue your trek in the direction of Shanti Stupa, a revered Buddhist stupa, from which you can enjoy a stunning sunrise panorama and a bird's-eye view of Leh.

As you spend your first day of the hike in Leh, remember to stay hydrated.

Day 3:

Because of the difficulty of this specific walk, the government has mandated that all participants obtain a medical certification before beginning the Chadar trek. After a medical examination, Sonam Narbu Hospital will provide a clearance certificate. Only those who are sufficiently prepared for the walk and fit enough to receive a certificate.

Day 4:

Start your morning with tea and breakfast before travelling to Shingra Koma. This ride is not for the faint of heart as the route frequently includes rough roads and hairpin bends. You'll be in amazement as you see the magnificent mountains in the area. You will eventually need to get off the car and walk toward the Somo Paldar campground.

This is where your Chadar trek trip begins.

Day 05:

You will embark on a journey to Tibb/Dib Cave today. You can view the region's spectacular grandeur, including its gorges and ravines, during the day. The sun may not be visible to you clearly because of the area's high cliffs. When you get at Dib, you will notice a large cave. This is where you will stop and relax for the night. There will be butter tea available, and we encourage you to taste it. Enjoy your camping trip overnight.

Day 6:

Today's hike will take you to the most beautiful part of the area, where you'll also have the chance to see prayer flags and the biggest ice waterfall. The bridge constructed near to the waterfall's location is utilised in the summer to connect Leh and Zanskar. After that, you can head to the village of Naerak to interact with the residents and learn about their way of life. Comfortably spend the night at the village camp.

Day 7:

On this particular day, begin your return journey and go in the direction of Tibb. The river reacts swiftly to any temperature change, and the return route would not be simple. The frozen river may have completely changed shape at this point. Admire the beauty of the area on the walk back, take photos, and chat with residents who are wearing traditional woollen Gonchas (robes). Relax and spend the night at the campsite after visiting Dib Cave.
