Beacon Falls Industries

The American town of Beacon Falls is located in western New Haven County, Connecticut. It is located in the state's southwest and is divided by the Naugatuck River. South of the town's center is where you'll find Pine Bridge, formerly known as Pines Bridge. Beacon Falls was once referred to as Bethany's Beacon Falls Station, Beacon Falls Village, and Beacon Falls Postal District. On the Naugatuck River, there are slightly over 6,000 people living in the tiny town of Beacon Falls. It's a fantastic location for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. The waterfall that inspired the name Beacon Falls was located near Bethany along Beacon Brook. The region was formerly called Nyumps and was first inhabited by Paugasett and Paugasuck tribal groups before being established by English colonists in 1678. Incorporated in June of 1871, Beacon Falls was created from fragments of the nearby towns of Bethany, Oxford, Naugatuck, and Seymour. Early industries in the town's economy included farming, friction matches, and rubber shoes; now, the economy is service-based.

The several industrial companies that ran their operations in the beautiful brick factory buildings on North Main Street, next to the Naugatuck River, are a significant part of Beacon Falls' history. The Beacon Falls Rubber Shoe Company was the final and most prosperous of such businesses. The Lower Naugatuck Valley had a boom in rubber manufacture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This came when Charles Goodyear, a Connecticut native, developed and received a patent for the vulcanization process, which turned natural rubber into a strong, elastic, waterproof substance. The American Hard Rubber Company constructed a brick plant near Beacon Falls in the 1850s using Naugatuck River water power.
