Southwestern Rugs - Our Newest Addiction | GWGOutlet

Southwestern style décor in your home or anyone's home can reveal a lot about that person and their lifestyle, including how they view the world inside their home and what they value most in life. As I reflect on my youth, I notice that almost every home in my village that I visited as a child had Southwestern art, antiques, sculptures, and dolls on their tables, walls, and floors. I even had some in my childhood house, and they continue to fascinate me to this day.

I recently performed my own research on these items I had as a youngster in my old home, and I discovered they are from a Native American tribe that carved these objects by hand and passed them down down the years. I have a new perspective on these relics because they are a part of me, my culture, which my people have tried to preserve via art over the years.

Finally, décor may convey a tale about where it came from, who owned it, and what it signified. From my culture, a family heirloom you've owned for twenty years or more, or something you picked up at a yard sale last Saturday. What you discover could be a piece of history.

Southwestern home floor decorations are significant not because of their archaeological or societal value, but because of their personal relevance to each of us. Our homes' contents tell the tale of our life, of who we are and how we came to be. Home design is an outward manifestation of our inner selves.

Southwestern fashion is becoming increasingly popular.

When we invite others into our homes, we are not merely inviting them to enter a place where we happen to live. We are doing the extremely personal act of welcome them into our inner world. This world is full of relics from our life, whether it's the oar from our father's homemade canoe hanging on the wall or the perfectly placed Southwestern area rug with the design we fell in love with.

Our houses are filled with wonderful objects that represent the beautiful aspects of ourselves. The elements of décor are the components of our being.

Each piece is hand-picked to express our personal comfort and beauty, from faint washes to deep rich hues. For some, this is reflected in a coffee table found at their favourite thrift store, or one handcrafted from beetle-kill pine, or perhaps a marble top Chippendale. Our homes' items represent our passions and the essence of who we are, whether utilitarian, eclectic, or intellectual.

From a child's handprint artwork hanging from a magnet on the refrigerator to the throw pillow we refuse to sleep on, décor matters because these things in our homes are indicators of life. Each item tells a small part of our narrative - how we got to this point in our life.
