Choosing an Egyptian Mau

The Egyptian Mau is the only natural breed of spotted cat. It is quick, strong, and has a beautiful spotted short coat. The mau, on the other hand, doesn't have any wildcat blood in its family tree like the spotted Bengal. It does, however, have a long and interesting history that may even go back to ancient Egypt and the cat cult.

History and Origin of an Egyptian Mau Cat

The Egyptian mau is thought to be the ancestor of the sacred cat that ancient Egyptians worshiped. It is one of the oldest breeds. During the time of the cat cult, maus were thought to be gods in human form, and Egyptian women based their elaborate eye makeup on the markings on their faces.

In Egypt, cats were first liked because they kept rodents away from grain stores. But over time, they became much more than that. First, they were loved pets, and then they were worshipped. In Egyptian mythology, cats were linked to the goddess Bast, who was usually shown as a tall, thin woman with a cat's head. Cats were seen as Bast's body, and when a cat died, Egyptians went into mourning and shaved their eyebrows to show how sad they were. Mice and other small prey were often mummified with these cats to feed them in the afterlife.

Appearance of an Egyptian Mau

The mau is long, graceful, muscular, and has a cheetah-like stride. A unique flap of skin goes from the side to the back knee. This lets the animal move more quickly and with a longer stride. At more than 30 miles per hour, the Egyptian mau is the fastest breed of domestic cat.

They are medium-sized cats. Adult males weigh between 10 and 14 pounds, and adult females weigh between 6 and 10 pounds. The Savannah Cat for Sale North Carolina is shaped like a slightly rounded wedge, with a small rise from the nose bridge to the forehead. The tip of the nose is neither short nor sharp. The ears are medium to large, pointed, and wide at the base. There is a lot of space between the ears. The eyes are shaped like almonds and are big and alert. Eyes are green like gooseberries.

Egyptian Mau Cat’s Personality

You might be drawn to the mau at first because of its beautiful spotted coat, but you will probably fall in love with the breed because of its personality and temperament. Maus are known for being smart, active, and loving.

Egyptian Mau for Sale love to hunt, whether its catnip mice, rubber balls, or wiggling fingers, just like their supposed ancestors did when they went on bird hunts with their Egyptian worshipers. In fact, they love all fake hunting games, but Fetch is their favorite. If you throw a catnip mouse, your mau will chase it down and bring it back to you. It will have the toy in its strong jaws and its eyes will be shining with predatory pride.

Grooming an Egyptian Mau

The short fur of the mau doesn't have a downy undercoat, so it doesn't need to be groomed as often as other breeds. But most maus like it when you brush them. About twice a month is about right for brushing and cutting the nails.
