Laser Hair Removal Vs Waxing - Which Is The Better Option?

Grooming has gone beyond just personal hygiene – people are becoming conscious about the way they look and how people perceive them. For the longest time, it was only women who were concerned about unwanted hair on their bodies. But these days, even men are concerned about having too much hair on their bodies. And while waxing has been a commonly used procedure by women for several years, it is being used by men too. However, the fact is that there are better and more efficient methods of removal of unwanted hair, and laser hair removal is just one of them.

If one were to compare waxing with laser hair removal, there would be plenty of pros and cons to be compared, but before delving into those, it would be wise to learn a little bit more about both.

·        Let’s start with waxing:

As the name suggests, waxing uses wax, which is a sticky, non-toxic substance that is applied to the skin. There are basically two types of wax – hot and cold. The former needs to be warmed before use, while the latter can be used as is. Once the wax has been applied to the skin, a piece of cloth or fabric is placed and then it is ripped off. The process will remove not only the wax but also the hair along with the hair bulb, leaving you with clean and smooth-looking skin. The method can be used on pretty much all parts of the body, including arms, legs, armpits, face, and private parts. The problem with waxing however is that it is not a permanent solution – this means that you will have to keep going back for another session, every 3 to 6 weeks. Moreover, if your hair growth is really fine, you might not be able to get the waxing, because you need proper growth for the process to be effective.

·        Now moving on to laser removal:

Laser hair removal removes hair using laser – while it might sound as basic as that, the process is a lot more sophisticated. Laser removal is a procedure that utilizes a concentrated beam of light that penetrates the skin and goes to the root of the hair. Once inside, it destroys the hair follicle itself, and that ensures that new hair is not able to grow back. In most cases, a hand-held device will be used to emit the laser to the hair follicles, but these days, you can find small devices that can be used at home, without supervision. Although you might not be able to see smooth, hair-free skin from the first session, over a few sittings, you will be able to see skin that is almost completely hair free.

·        Which is the better option though:

There is no way that anyone would be able to say that simply because laser hair removal cost in India is generally on the higher side, waxing would be the better option. There are several factors, based on which the final call of choosing one over the other, needs to be taken. These would include:

*     Hair and skin type – While almost every skin and hair type can get waxing done, there are certain people who might not prove to be effective candidates for laser hair removal. If you have very light skin or very light-colored hair, chances are that you might not be suitable enough a candidate for laser treatment. However, this would be the preferred choice for someone who has extremely sensitive skin, because waxing is not.

*     Pain factor – Let’s be honest, there is pain in both procedures, although laser removal, it can be classified more as discomfort than pain. Waxing is considered to be a painful procedure because your hair is literally being ripped and although most people tend to get used to it after multiple sessions, it still remains. With laser removal, it is more like a rubber band snapping against your skin, which is much more bearable for most people.

*     Cost – There is no denying that the laser hair removal cost in India will is much higher than a session of waxing, but if you were to calculate long-term costs, you will realize that laser is the better option. With waxing, you will have to keep repeating the procedure, over and over again, throughout the year. However, with laser, within about 4-8 sessions, you should have skin that is almost hair free and extremely smooth.

*     Permanence – Neither is absolutely permanent, but the laser has more long-lasting results, especially when compared with waxing. With waxing, the results will last only a few weeks, but if laser removal is done properly, you should be able to enjoy hair-free skin for several years. More importantly, the hair that does grow back will be really fine and might not even be visible immediately.

So, the overall conclusion could be that laser hair removal is a better choice, especially when compared to waxing.
