Hugo and friends, written by Philip Schwartz, is a children’s book that will take you on the journey of Hugo, a happy hippopotamus who is going all around the world, spreading love and kindness. The book contains a jumble of animal poems, with friendly animals exploring and Hugo commenting on the incredible nature’s creation.
After its publication, this book inspired parents to read it to their children. It stimulated a love for animals among the children and motivated them to pick a pencil and jot down poems on their notepads. After surveying, we found a few poems written by children aged 6 to 7 on the main character, Hugo. We have collected two poems for our readers to inspire them to write something independently.
Poem #1
Hugo the Hippo, a friend to all,
He loves to make new friends, big and small.
He cares for animals and for the earth,
And roams around, full of mirth.
He is so kind, and he is so sweet,
Rides his cycle with his animal fleet.
They explore the world with laughter and cheer,
And show us all that friends are dear.
He, an eco-warrior,
Loves to protect the earth's flora and fauna.
He picks up trash and plants some trees,
And reminds us all to care for the seas.
He is a friend, so true,
He shows us all what love can do.
With his heart so big and his spirit so bright,
He makes the world a better sight.
Poem # 2:
Hugo the Hippo, so big and round,
Travels the world with friends he’s found.
He watches the sea, the sun, and the sky,
And marvels at stars that twinkle up high.
He is a friendly fellow,
Takes all his friends on journeys so mellow.
They explore the world with wonder and glee,
And soak in the sights for all to see.
Hugo the Hippo, what a joy to be,
A wanderer, explorer, and friend to all he sees.
From mountains to valleys and oceans blue,
He’s a happy hippo, and so are you!
He is so kind and wise,
Has seen it all through his big round eyes.
He knows the secrets of the world so true,
And shares them with us, me and you.
Hugo the Hippo, what a sight to see,
With a big round belly and a heart so free.
He travels the world, far and wide,
With friends by his side on a wild ride.
He loves to roam,
From the moor to the sea, he’s never alone.
He watches the sunset, so golden and bright,
And gazes at the stars all through the night.
What a wonder he is,
With a heart so big and a smile that never fizzles.
He brings joy to all, wherever he goes,
And leaves us all with memories to behold.
Hugo, a true adventurer,
With a spirit that soars and a passion to wander.
He reminds us all to live life with zeal,
And to embrace the journey with each passing feel.
