Education at De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) has a long history of enhancing people's lives. In 1870 - De Montfort University was established as the Leicester School of Craftsmanship. Eventually, it was referred to as Leicester Polytechnic and Leicester Colleges of Art and Technology. In 1992, Leicester Polytechnic became De Montfort University. With its humble origins as a derelict warehouse, the institution has expanded and transformed to accommodate about 27,000 students and 2,600 staff members. A gold rating was given to De Montfort University by the Teaching Excellence Framework.
