Exciting Indoor Activities for Kids to Do at Home

With winter approaching in a matter of months, you may be thinking of ways to entertain the kids on rainy days. Keeping your children entertained at home doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes, even the simplest things can fill them with joy!

If you want to bond with your kid, leave the screen time for another day. From having fun with arts and crafts supplies to baking tasty cookies, here are some exciting activities you can do with your kids at home.

Teach them how to bake

Bring out your ingredients and get inventive in the kitchen. If you're passionate about baking, teach your child how to bake or let them assist you.

From muffins to cookies, there are many beginner recipes you can try baking together. However, you can also do all the baking and let them decorate the cookies right after! They can also add sprinkles and candies to make your baked goods prettier (and sweeter).

Create an indoor obstacle course

If you want to enhance your child's motor coordination and get some exercise in, this activity is more than ideal. You can set up obstacle courses in different rooms in your home.

Your unused cardboard boxes can even become tunnels your kids can crawl through. Tie strings around your chair and table legs, and let your kids can pretend it's a laser beam they must pass through. There are more than ways than one to turn your home into an obstacle course without spending a penny.

Engage in arts and crafts

Bring out the arts and crafts supplies and let your kid explore their creativity! Whether drawing, painting, or creating papier-mâché, your child can have fun with art.

You can give them colouring materials and paper or consider purchasing a kit with complete inclusions to make their art. For instance, you can buy them DIY arts and crafts supplies with instructions to create a finished product they can use.

Play board games

For screen-free bonding time with your kids, board games are another activity you and your children can enjoy. Whether it's a game of Monopoly or Jenga, time will pass faster when you're having competitive fun. You can also enhance their brainpower with timeless board games like chess and Scrabble.

Conduct a science experiment

There are many harmless science experiments your kids can do at home. Your child can bring out their inner scientist with minimal prep and a few household items.

For a crash course in earth science, your kid can grow an avocado tree at home with three things: an avocado seed, a glass jar, and toothpicks. All they need to do is fill the glass jar with water and let the avocado seed suspend over it with toothpicks. You can explore more at-home science experiments if you're looking for other options.

Enjoy a dance party

Whip out your favourite playlist and dance the day away with your child in the living room. If you can't dance to save your life, you can also follow dance choreography tutorials on YouTube or TikTok. Although, simply moving your body to the beat is enough to create an enjoyable atmosphere for your child.

While it's easy for your child to do passive activities like watching cartoons or letting them play games on their tablet, you can entertain and educate them through fun yet fulfilling activities. Enjoy your day with your little ones!
