Fluorescence Microscope

A fluorescence microscope is an advanced optical instrument used in scientific research, medical diagnostics, and various fields of biology. It utilizes the phenomenon of fluorescence to visualize and study biological samples with high precision and sensitivity. Here's a description of a fluorescence microscope:

Optical System:

A fluorescence microscope consists of several key components that work together to capture and detect fluorescent signals emitted by a sample. The optical system typically includes an excitation light source, excitation filters, a dichroic mirror, objective lenses, and emission filters.

Excitation Light Source:

The excitation light source is usually a high-intensity lamp, such as a mercury or xenon arc lamp, or a more modern option like an LED (light-emitting diode). It emits light of a specific wavelength that is absorbed by fluorophores in the sample.

Excitation Filters:

Excitation filters are placed in the light path between the light source and the sample. They selectively transmit the desired excitation wavelength while blocking other wavelengths. This ensures that only the excitation light of the appropriate wavelength reaches the sample.

Dichroic Mirror:

The dichroic mirror, also known as a beamsplitter or dichroic beamsplitter, is positioned at an angle in the light path. It reflects the excitation light towards the sample while allowing the emitted fluorescence to pass through.

Objective Lenses:

Objective lenses are responsible for focusing the excitation light onto the sample and collecting the emitted fluorescence. They have different magnifications and numerical apertures (NA) to provide various levels of resolution and light-gathering abilities. For more visit www.Labozon.com
