What is a Good Skin Care Routine and How Do You Develop It?

One of the most popular pieces of beauty advice is having a proper skincare routine. Taking good care of your skin goes beyond appearance. A skincare routine will keep you looking youthful. But it also protects you from infection.

The skin is the body’s largest organ. It’s important that it remains healthy and strong. Dry or irritated skin can lead to cracks on the epidermis. This will make you susceptible to infections.

But what is a good skincare routine? There are so many skincare products out there. People are often inundated with product reviews and skincare tips. Plus, we have different skin types and product preferences.

Medical dermatology specialists say consistency is vital when it comes to skincare. It should be part of your schedule every day, whether you are staying at home or heading out to work. Experts say you should apply products in the proper order for them to become effective. These steps will give you an idea of what your skincare regimen should look like.

Cleaning your face is the first step to clean and lovely skin. It removes impurities and excess oil. These can dull your skin and clog pores. Splash clean water on your face. Take a small dollop of gentle cleanser and rub it on your face. Massage the product using gentle pressure. Rinse and pat dry. You might have to do this process twice if you are wearing makeup.

You can use a toner with hydrating properties twice a day. But an exfoliating one should only become used at night.

A serum with antioxidants is a good addition to your skincare routine. It protects your skin from free radicals. Antioxidant-based serums contain vitamins c and e. Others will also have caffeine, green tea, or resveratrol. Put a few drops of serum on your hand and pat them on your face and neck. A moisturizing serum is best used at night.

It’s good practice to treat any blemishes you have. But this is better done at night since the body is entering its repair mode.

Spot treatment products target the infection on the inside of the skin. It’s what causes acne or blackheads. Remove any skincare product on the blemish with a cotton swab. Apply a small amount of the treatment. Let it dry before putting on any skin product. Of course, you don’t have to do this step if you don’t have blemishes.

A moisturizer hydrates the skin and ensures all the products you’ve put on are all locked in. Individuals with dry skin should choose a balm or cream-type moisturizer. Fluid and gel moisturizers are best for oily skin. Thicker moisturizers are great for normal and combination skin.

This is the last step in your morning skincare routine. Your dermatologist will tell you it’s a crucial step. Sunscreen reduces the risk of skin cancer. It blocks UV light so your skin will keep a youthful look longer. Choose one with an SPF 30 rating or higher. It will protect you against both UVA and UVB light.

You have to reapply your sunscreen every two hours when you spend time under the sun. It’s also best if you also take other precautions. For example, wear a hat or stay in the shade.
