CAR T Cell Therapy: Shaping The Landscape Of Cancer Immunotherapy

A form of gene cell therapy known as chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy uses T cells to attack cancer cells. The three main processes in CAR T cell therapy are the collection of T cells, the engineering of T cells, and the injection of CAR T cells into the human body. The T cell immunotherapy known as chimeric antigen receptor CAR T Cell Therapy makes use of the body's own immune system to combat cancer. Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) is a severe side effect of CAR T cell therapy where CAR T cells release chemicals called cytokines that trigger immune system reactions such as low blood pressure, breathing difficulties, fatigue, nausea, and diarrhoea.


Another challenge is the management of adverse events associated with CAR T Cell Therapy, such as cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and neurotoxicity. CRS, characterized by fever, flu-like symptoms, and potential organ dysfunction, can occur as a result of the activation and proliferation of CAR T cells. Neurotoxicity, on the other hand, manifests as confusion, seizures, and other neurological symptoms. The development of strategies to predict, monitor, and effectively manage these side effects is crucial for the widespread adoption of CAR T cell therapy.


Despite its success, CAR T Cell Therapy does come with challenges. One significant challenge is the high cost of treatment. The complex and personalized nature of CAR T cell therapy, along with the extensive laboratory and manufacturing processes involved, contribute to its high price tag. However, efforts are being made to improve the scalability and cost-effectiveness of CAR T cell therapy, with the goal of making it more accessible to a broader population.
