“Sample preparation for cannabis and hemp analysis is fast and easy”
Since Germany legalized marijuana in 2017, patients have been protected from buying marijuana of questionable quality on the black market. Today, they receive prescriptions, doses of marijuana like any other drug in a pharmacy, and are informed by a doctor about the opportunities and risks of treatment. Cannabinoids are becoming increasingly important in pain and palliative medicine. Existing therapeutic forms of cannabis flower and cannabis extract differ in their pharmacokinetic properties.
The most important therapeutic cannabinoids tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) show different active properties (analgesic, antispasmodic, appetite stimulating, etc.). There are strict regulations governing the use of cannabis products, so quality control of the source material is extremely important.
CEM developed the application of EDGE solvent extraction and microwave digestion for these studies, followed by rapid and accurate analysis of the following parameters:
- potency
- Insecticides
- Elemental content (eg heavy metals)
- Mycotoxins
- Terpenes
For the first time, the complete process of cannabis preparation, extraction and analysis will be covered in three webinar days.
To this end, the three participating companies Retsch, CEM and Shimadzu will hold separate 90-minute webinars over 3 days - each of which will also include an online presentation. All three webinars are free, are hands-on, and provide a comprehensive overview of the entire process from raw material grinding to final analysis by chromatography and atomic spectroscopy.
Each company involved will offer 2 identical workshops, a morning session and an afternoon session, at their own time to cover all time zones.
