Cloud Computing as a Means to Boost HR Operations

For a long time, it seemed that only the traditional reasons including lower cost and enhanced flexibility were the core drivers behind migration to Cloud. However, there are a number of professions witnessing a wider range of benefits that extend behind cost and flexibility.

Human Resources or more commonly known as the HR department was one of the industries that used to be quite reluctant to migrate to Cloud earlier. But the situation has changed considerably now as HR has embraced Cloud too.

In this blog post, we will analyze the different aspects related to HR embracing Cloud.

Factors that Prevented HR to Move to Cloud

Well, security and confidentiality were the two main reasons behind such long delay. HR department includes loads of personal data pertaining to employees and about the company's policies. So, initially, it was considered to maintain that data in-house.

After all, why would a company leave its personal data prone to threats when the same can be accessed using username and password? Hence, security along with flexibility and cost may have been the initial drivers for moving to Cloud.

No doubt legislation is changing throughout payroll and HR. Legislation may be enacted and accordingly modified according to Government's will. So, one of the big challenges for companies deploying HR or payroll software was to update the same to stay optimally complaint with the legislation.

Discussing the ill-effects of non-compliance would include fines from HMRC and most adversely irregular payments to company's employees.

The impact of the latter effect was more harmful as employees may even depart to some other employer, thus increasing the overall attrition rate. Keeping it up with the legislation used to be a nightmare for companies depending on HR and payroll software.

How Cloud Changed the Scene?

It was the Cloud-delivered HR software that changed things for the good for the HR industry. All updates were rolled out online and just in time for the coming pay run. So, overall it was a great saving of time as well as zero hassle for the HR to manage different aspects related to operation. It thus also ensured that employees received the correct amount as salary and company was saved from paying any fines.

We can consider the example of a leading store chain that was facing similar issues. With each store in the chain having its own HR and corresponding HR policy, it was becoming quite complicated for managing hundreds of store included in the chain.

A centralized HR policy system solved all issues besides increasing employee engagement as employees could apply for leave online while being at home and even get it approved in the defined time frame.

So, from the HR angle, it's not just the flexibility and cost savings but also improvement in the actual ROI and daily business. Core objective of HR are increasing compliance, employee engagement and shrinking fines and with Cloud, HR have been able achieve all of these with good effect. In short, the HR has just got much better with Cloud in the modern era.
