Lee Se-dol: “AI Should not be Viewed from a Perspective of Fear”

AlphaGo and 8 years of baduk of the century... Google Korea 20th Anniversary Interview.

Lee Se-dol, a 9-dan player who played the 'match of the century' against artificial intelligence (AI) AlphaGo eight years ago, expressed his opinion that AI should not be viewed with fear.

On the 19th, Google Korea posted a video of a recent interview with Lee Sedol on its blog to commemorate its 20th anniversary.

In March 2016, Lee Sedol competed against Google DeepMind's Go AI program, AlphaGo, as the best human player at the time.

At the time, many people predicted Lee Sedol's dominance. 바카라사이트

Baduk is so diverse and complex that the number of cases is greater than the number of atoms in the universe, and it shows the extremes of the human spirit, including the intuition and imagination to run the game and read the opponent's winning breath, the determination to raise the game at a critical moment, and the unwavering steadfastness even in moments of crisis.

Because it is a demanding game.

Due to AlphaGo's ability exceeding expectations, this 9th dan player finished the match with 1 win and 4 losses, but he ultimately remained the only professional knight to win against AlphaGo.

Sedol Lee, who retired in 2019, said, “Artificial intelligence played a large part in my retirement,” and said, “Since his retirement, I have been interested in and studying various fields, including generative artificial intelligence.”

Regarding his match against AlphaGo eight years ago, he recalled, "There were parts where I thought it was a bit easy," and "(AlphaGo) played so well that it felt like hitting a tennis ball against a wall."

When asked about the changes that AI has brought to the way people learn to play Baduk, Lee Sedol replied, "I think that since the advent of AI, the artistry of Baduk has faded because it is as if you guess the correct answer by looking at an answer sheet."

Also, when asked whether professional players participating in competitions tend to do their first training with AI, he said, "The notation has completely changed before and after the release of AlphaGo," and "The notation of the past is now of no special value other than for learning the history of Baduk.

“I lost,” he pointed out.

This interview, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Google's Korean branch, focused on how humans should properly control AI technology and develop it for a better future as AI continues to make rapid progress and is at an important inflection point.

Regarding the core principles of AI development, Dan Lee said, “AI is so necessary in the world we will live in, so we must control the speed and move in the direction of solving ethical problems with clear principles,” but added, “There is a view that is already afraid of AI.

“I don’t think it should be viewed as such,” he emphasized.

He added, “Whether humans feel fear or not, technology will continue to develop,” adding, “I think the fear people have about AI right now is a bit excessive.”

He emphasized, “Not only is it impossible to imagine a future without AI technology, but if there is no development in this direction, humanity will face a very bleak future,” and “AI technology is that absolute.”
