The Problem
ASRS repaired vertical cracking in 16 masonry piers using Helibar crack reinforcement and Dryfix pinning ties. Helifix recommended ASRS to BMW, who needed a contractor to design a specification and perform the installation to restore the structural integrity of the piers. The vertical cracking had occurred due to thermal expansion. The work was conducted over weekends to ensure that the plant could operate normally without disruption.
The Solution
After conducting a detailed survey of the plant, ASRS proposed a comprehensive remedial design. The specification included the installation of 322 single bands of Helibar crack reinforcement, applied horizontally across the cracks. To ensure long-term durability, Dryfix pinning ties were used to reconnect the masonry piers to the main structure, providing resistance to future cracking. ASRS carried out the repairs efficiently over weekends, enabling the plant to maintain its operations without any interruptions. This strategic scheduling minimized downtime and ensured the project stayed on track.
Completed Project
Upon completing the installation of Helifix crack stitches and Dryfix pinning ties, additional repairs were made. The existing cracks were raked out and injected with thixotropic cementitious grout. Disturbed mortar was carefully restored, and cracked bricks were tinted to blend seamlessly with the original structure. The meticulous work ensured a high-quality finish while restoring the piers’ integrity. For more details, visit: ASRS BMW Project
