To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Swiss watch retailer Watches of Switzerland, Ulysse Nardin has just launched a limited edition work - "Freak S Crystalium Watches of Switzerland". The special feature is that the dial is made of purple artificial ruthenium crystal and equipped with a flying double oscillator carrousel structure, just like a spaceship flying in space. The 45mm titanium case is PVD-coated, and the dark gray tone and sharp and tough lines complement each other, exuding a futuristic sci-fi atmosphere. Press the gray lock at the 6 o'clock position of the case to rotate the bezel to adjust the time. The dial is made of slices of polycrystalline ruthenium grown in the laboratory, and countless tiny purple ruthenium crystals reflect light from all angles, presenting a brilliant effect. This dial rotates once every 12 hours, and the white mark on the dial indicates the current hour. The central flying carrousel structure rotates once every hour and also serves as the minute hand. The dual oscillators and dual silicon balance wheels are presented in an oversized size.
The WOS edition is uniformly sci-fi. The carousel sits on a textured, crystalline purple plate. It’s an appealing look – the bold, unusual colour is arguably perfect match for the radical styling and construction of the Freak. Moreover, it brings to mind historical Freak models that often employed colours for visual effect, like the Freak Blue Phantom. Costing about 10% more than the Freak S Nomad, the WOS edition is fairly priced, especially since it’s the only Freak with a crystalium dial so far and a small run of just 10 pieces. However, the value proposition could change if Ulysse Nardin introduces additional variants with the same dial material.
