Working in the field of technology and starting was a dream for me, but it was all in my destiny. My name is Chris Salis, and my journey with SAP has been one filled with learning, innovation, and endless curiosity. Looking back, I could never have guessed how each step would lead me closer to building solutions that shaped global enterprises.
When I first started working, SAP was a far dream. I knew it was a company that transforms businesses. I never imagined being part of it and being recognized as Chris Salis SAP expert. However, the path has been full of challenges, growth, and bold decisions that have shaped who I am today.
Journey from a Student to a Business Leader
After graduating from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, I stepped into the corporate world through Adecco Employment Services. I was eager to learn, and Adecco gave me that platform. I began as an IT Procurement Manager. Later, I moved through roles like Senior IT Buyer and Strategic Sourcing Manager.
Learning Leadership at Gap and eBay
My next chapter was at Gap, where I served as Manager of Strategic Sourcing. Managing resources for such a massive retail company showed me the power of structured strategies and smart partnerships.
Soon after I joined eBay, I learned more about procurement and operational excellence. There, I worked on improving performance, sourcing operations, and improving systems.
Joining Business Objects
In 2006, a new door opened when I joined Business Objects, a company known for its cutting-edge business intelligence software. I started as Senior Manager for Procurement and Strategic Sourcing. Later, I was promoted to Executive Director and Chief of Staff in the Office of the CEO.
At Business Objects, I managed large global teams and worked on strategies that influenced C-level decisions. My focus was to build systems that help leaders make better, faster decisions. It was at this time that I got my first real exposure to SAP. After Business Objects merged with SAP, my journey with them formally began.
Life Changing Journey at SAP
Joining SAP in Palo Alto as Vice President and Head of Global Sales for Procurement Solutions was a moment of immense pride. I was surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the tech world.
I was then appointed as the Global Vice President and General Manager for the Line of Business Solutions for Procurement. There, I introduced a new B2B and B2C SaaS business model and transformed digital offerings into profitable solutions. One of my achievements was shortening the innovation revenue cycle from 12 months to just 90 days.
We achieved a fourfold growth in SaaS revenue and a 300 percent surge in overall business performance. My work also led to the acquisition of Ariba for $4.3 billion in 2012, which became a critical step in SAP’s evolution.
Building a Vision Beyond Results
During my years at SAP, I realised that real leadership is about creating opportunities for others to thrive. I had the privilege of building high-performing global teams that made a real difference.
Through these experiences, I, Chris Salis, SAP professional, came to see technology as a force for empowerment. This guided every project I led, mentoring startups, and helping entrepreneurs bring their ideas to life.
Becoming a Startup Advisor and Consultant
Then I started my firm, Catapuult Consulting. With my company, I helped companies refine their strategies and grow from zero to one million dollars in annual recurring revenue.
Giving Back Through Secure Our Schools Foundation
In 2022, I co-founded the Secure Our Schools Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to making K12 schools safer across the country. Our programs focus on preventing active shooter incidents and improving medical response systems. We focused on creating environments where students and teachers can feel secure.
A Journey of Purpose and Progress
Looking back, the story of Chris Salis SAP is gradually climbing the corporate ladder. It’s about resilience and the drive to make an impact. From my early days in procurement to leading global digital strategies, every challenge shaped the bigger picture of my career.
Today, as I continue mentoring startups, my focus is to help people, grow ideas, and keep learning. One thing that my journey teaches is that success begins when you dare to dream and stay open to what comes next.
