Using tattoo numbing cream the right way makes a huge difference in how well it works. Follow these simple steps to get strong, long-lasting numbness during your tattoo session.
1. Clean the Skin
Start by washing the tattoo area with mild soap and warm water.
Removing dirt, oil, and sweat helps the cream absorb better.
2. Exfoliate Lightly (Optional but Helpful)
A soft exfoliation removes dead skin so the cream can penetrate deeper.
Don’t scrub too hard — gentle is enough.
3. Dry the Area Completely
Make sure the skin is fully dry before applying the cream.
Moisture can reduce its effectiveness.
4. Apply a Thick Layer of Numbing Cream
Spread a generous, even layer over the entire tattoo area.
Don’t rub it in like lotion — leave it sitting thick on top of the skin.
5. Cover with Plastic Wrap
Wrap the area with cling film to activate the numbing ingredients.
This helps the cream heat up slightly and absorb deeper into the skin.
6. Let It Sit for 45–60 Minutes
For strong numbing, allow enough time for full activation.
The longer it sits (within limits), the stronger and longer-lasting the numbness.
7. Remove the Wrap & Wipe Off the Cream
Just before the tattoo starts, remove the wrap and gently wipe off any excess cream.
The numbness will last 2–4 hours, depending on skin type and product strength.
8. Begin the Tattoo
Your skin should feel numb, tingly, or slightly heavy — that means it’s working.
You’ll feel dramatically less pain during the session.
