Nintendo is said to be using Sharp's "IGZO" screen technology for an upcoming new model of the Switch games console, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Sharp's IGZO screen technology "delivers high-resolution, ultra-low power, and slim product profiles, plus exceptionally detailed touch panel capabilities," the company says.

All those things could be beneficial to the Nintendo Switch, a console with a built-in display that can become a hand-held gaming device.

A new upcoming version of the hugely popular Nintendo Switch console — which some are calling the Switch "Pro" — is said to come with a significantly better screen than the current model, according to The Wall Street Journal.

According to Sharp, IGZO screens "delivers high-resolution, ultra-low power, and slim product profiles, plus exceptionally detailed touch panel capabilities."

The Nintendo Switch is a brilliant hybrid console, and this is largely in thanks to its ability to be used either as a handheld system or a traditional system.

Connecting it to a television requires a dock, and Nintendo’s own design is unwieldy and bulky.

The Genki Covert Dock aims to eliminate this issue by combining the dock’s functionality with a charger in a tiny single device.

Just launched on Kickstarter — the campaign destroyed its original $50,000 goal in less than one hour — the Genki Covert Dock is created by Human Things, and it includes an HDMI port, foldable prongs, and USB 3.1 and USB-C ports for charging and accessories.

The Nintendo Switch is not placed directly on the device, but rather connects with a USB-C cable, and an HDMI cable goes from the Genki Covert Dock to the television.

Its internals are powered by Gallium Nitride, which the creators said will reduce heat, and it can also charge everything from iPhones to Microsoft Surface tablets.

Updated headline on 8/8 to reflect 1440p resolution

In the past, the video game console you bought at launch would have the same graphical capabilities for its entire lifespan, with only software-side updates potentially improving how games looked and ran.

It is no longer the past, however, as Merseille’s mClassic device is a plug-and-play graphics processor that promises to boost your consoles’ performance without modification.

The mClassic is designed to work with all of your consoles, including the Nintendo Switch and retro systems.

It touts built-in anti-aliasing, 4K upscaling, better depth of field, and sharper image quality.

Merseille says in its IndieGoGo campaign that the device only adds about 1ms of extra latency onto games when in use.

After releasing a simple dongle that finally let the Nintendo Switch connect to wireless headphones, Human Things is back with another product that vastly improves the console’s portability.

The Genki Covert Dock replaces the Switch’s charger and TV dock with a streamlined wall adapter that does everything.

Soon after the Switch was released it was discovered that its bulky dock, which allowed the console to be connected to a TV, couldn’t be replaced with one of the existing USB-C to HDMI cable adapters already available for phones and tablets.

It didn’t take long for third-party accessory makers to figure out how to replicate what the Switch’s TV dock was doing, and releasing much smaller solutions, but none of them promise as much functionality as Human Things new Genki Covert Dock in such a compact package.

The adapter looks no bigger than the USB-C wall wart Nintendo includes for charging the Switch, but it adds an extra USB 3.1 port for charging other devices like a smartphone, and an HDMI port for connecting the Switch to a TV while its battery is being replenished.

You’ll need to remember to bring the requisite cables, but the Genki Covert Dock, which uses Gallium Nitride instead of silicon so there’s more room inside for additional electronics, should take up considerably less room in your daypack or carry-on.

Fans all the world over are eagerly awaiting the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield, the next mainline Pokémon game.

If you thought you had to work hard to afford your Nintendo Switch console, though, spare a thought for those poor Pokémon – who will be taking part in the gig economy to earn 'experience' in the game.

The official website for Sword and Shield includes a listing for something called "Poké Jobs", with all kinds of potential employment for your battle-hardened Pokémon.

Examples include "help with cooking", "construction work", or "protect our investments", with the player able to select how long the Pokémon works for.

It seems like a similar dynamic to Pokémon Day Care, where you leave your Pokémon at a kindergarten to learn and grow without having to battle with you – hugely useful for levelling up weaker creatures before you add them to your party.

Apparently, "There are many places requesting the help of Pokémon, including corporations and universities", meaning you'll have the option of helping the pursuit of learning, or (ruthless?)

When the Galaxy Note 10 was announced on Wednesday, Samsung talked about its new design, upgraded cameras and even introduced a second, larger model called the Note 10 Plus.

But one thing that was never mentioned (aside from the Galaxy Fold) was the fact that there was no longer a headphone jack on the Galaxy Note.

Absent were any signs of a headphone jack.

But in 2019, when Apple doesn't sell a single new iPhone model with a headphone jack and companies like Google, OnePlus and Huawei have removed them from their flagships, it's not surprising that the Galaxy Note 10 doesn't have one.

We can't pour one out for the 3.5-millimeter audio jack just yet because brands like LG and Motorola still have them on new phones.

Motorola removed the headphone jack from its Moto Z phone in 2016 only to bring it back on the this year's Moto Z4.

Human Things is launching a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the Genki Covert Dock, which uses gallium nitride to create a much smaller, more power-efficient dock and charger for the Nintendo Switch and other USB-C-powered devices.

It can replace your bulky Switch dock for connecting the Nintendo hybrid gaming console to the TV, and it can replace the charger as well.

It can also replace your larger MacBook chargers and display dongle and, charging multiple devices as once.

And it fits in your product, making it a lot easier to transport your Switch.

The company aims to raise $50,000 in the next 30 days on Kickstarter.

[Update: The company blew past its goal already and has $139,000 raised in a few hours]

The Breath of the Wild sequel may be years away, but Zelda fans will have a new game to play in 2019.

Ahead of its September 20 launch on Nintendo Switch, here’s everything we know so far about this modern take on one of the greatest Zelda games of all time.

Link’s Awakening takes place on Koholint Island, where Link must collect eight magical musical instruments from dungeons to wake to Wind Fish and drive out the Nightmare known as Dethl.

During the E3 2019 demo we played, we came across a new house in town that appears to house Super Mario collectibles.

So Link’s Awakening for Switch will retain the weird cameos from other Nintendo franchises and perhaps expand on them, too.

Koholint Island is explored from an isometric perspective in Link’s Awakening on Switch.
