Women who run: a review of the history of women's athletic in our country

That running in recent years has experienced growth in the female sector is something that we cannot ignore. At the same time that going out for a run became fashionable among the entire population, the number of women also grew little by little in races, both in the short distance and in the longer distances, where we still have work to do.

The path of women in sport has not been easy throughout the last decades of the history of our country: a review of the last century of the Spanish history of women's athletics is what journalist Cristina Miter does in her documentary 'Women who run',

The 30s of the 20th century, before the Civil War, is the starting point of this documentary through which we can learn about the sports and personal history of some of the great athletes of our country.

From Aurora Villa, the first woman to participate in the ten modalities of athletics, to Pilar Fernández, eleven times champion of Spain in cross country, we go through the history of different athletes and she puts on the table how the relationship between women and athletics has been, with its good things, such as the support of the people around it, and others not so good that they even survive today, like the problem of conciliation.

The documentary continues to this day, telling us the story of one of the young promises of our country: Ana Lozano, champion of Spain of 5000 meters. Also that of Rocío Martínez, television presenter and Ana Lucía Santiago, especially moving, the first blind runner to run the Madrid women's half marathon.

A very interesting documentary both to learn about the history of athletics in our country and to see the different profiles of women who join this sport every day.(Ciara Short)
