HND Online Courses

What is an HND?

An HND is a Higher National Diploma, a UK based qualification that is an excellent addition to anyone’s education toolkit; a HND is also a popular qualification choice in other countries with links to the United Kingdom such as India, Nigeria and Ghana. Few learning institutions offer HND online courses in a wide variety of disciplines, meaning there is an HND course out there for everyone. The most popular HND online courses are usually in Business or Marketing sectors, however, courses such as Engineering, Accounting and Health and Social Care, just to name a few. Distance learning HND courses allow participants to gain industry level qualifications without having to travel to university or college and being able to study in their free time. Usually, HNDs are equivalent to around two years of undergraduate study, which can then be topped-up at university to achieve a complete Bachelor’s degree.

Who can study one? Are there any Requirements?

Most institutions who offer Higher National Diploma courses require some form of previous education, whether this is A-Levels or BTEC qualifications in relevant disciplines to the course you wish to study. Some however just require a strong work ethic and a competency in the English Language. The College of Contract Management requires no previous qualifications for their HND courses, they only ask you score a level of 5.5 or more on an IELTS test or equivalent if English is not your native language. They offer HNDs in Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Entrepreneurship and Business Law, among others, if you’re looking into fast-tracking your business or marketing career.

Why they are beneficial

So, you’re interested in an HND, but not sure why you should choose an HND over a regular undergraduate course? The answer is simple: while many traditional undergraduate courses are usually very content and theory heavy, a Higher National Diploma is a more hands-on and practical qualification. This is especially helpful if you are wishing to specialise in a practical and experience-based industry such as Business Management, Construction or Engineering. While a university course will give you knowledge in these sectors, an HND will allow you to put this information into contextual situations and learn from industry professionals that have years of experience.

The possibilities are endless

Finding an HND suited to your needs and career ambitions can be daunting, but rest assured, there is a course for everyone. Many HND courses vary in length, course delivery methods, course content, contact time and price. It’s important when choosing an HND path that you pick one that suits your needs. Many HNDs are very career-focussed so if you have a career in mind, an HND is the perfect way to propel yourself into the industry. Business and marketing HNDs are extremely popular, and offer a great way to boost your salary potential in any career sector.

Online courses are the future

Distance learning and online courses have become increasingly popular in recent years, in one year alone in the United States, approximately 12.5% of all college students were taught exclusively online. (ext. link: https://www.bestcollegesonline.org/faq/how-many-students-take-online-college-courses/) This is down to several factors. The ease of studying online means that you don’t have to give up your work or home commitments in order to receive a respected qualification such as an HND. You can study from practically anywhere around the globe with an internet connection, and you’ll most likely save money in the long term too – no pesky student debts weighing on your shoulders to worry about! Online courses often offer qualifications that are equivalent, if not higher to, undergraduate degrees.

How Are They Graded?

For each assignment you complete in an HND, you’ll receive a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade based on the quality of your submitted assessments. After then completing your HND, if you feel you don’t want to jump straight into the workplace, you can study a final year at university to upgrade your HND to a full Bachelor’s degree. This also acts as an advantage to taking an HND as you don’t have to commit to the three or four years spent at university, along with the much greater course fees.

So what are you waiting for?

Whether you’re working full-time, a professional looking for extra skills or just finishing college, choosing an HND has never been easier. With so many options for online courses, it’s never been easier to gain higher-education qualifications without sacrificing your work or home life. With online colleges such as The College of Contract Management offering online HND courses worldwide, it’s easy to get a UK-recognised qualification wherever you are. This specific qualification may be what puts you above your competition when applying for competitive jobs as an HND shows you have both practical experience and relevant theory knowledge of any subject you choose to specialise in.
