Pencil heater is made in different shapes. A variety of materials and manufacturing processes are used by different manufacturers to produce cartridge heaters of different quality, volume, capability, and price levels.
Definitions of these different variables are regarded by the consumer as undefined. If the heater configuration depends on the coil pressure of the terminal pin to maintain the connection, a high-resistance joint can develop faster than a spot-weaved junction. For example, if the design of the High density Cartridge Heater uses a crimped transition to braid or tube lead insulation, the heater is more likely to fail much faster in repeatedly flexed applications than the heater with a welded switch.

A variety of applications need different cartridge heaters. For instance, the quantity of heaters available for a process varies from roomy to tight. Both conditions and their extent impact the ability of the supplier to meet process requirements effectively. Appropriate application space must allow enough cartridge heaters to fulfill the watt density requirements (the watt is dissipated to a heated surface per square inch of the sheath). A screening frame can handle heaters and only one screening bar can fit. In general, the watt power of a bottle heater can prolong its life.
The requisite heat certainly affects the life and output of a cartridge heater. For general, lower temperature applications such as plastic molding and heater screening packages are not difficult, and most heaters do the job. Higher temperature applications and the development of friction pads would require higher watt density and better manufacturing techniques for heaters.
The position of thermocouples is important for the heater’s survival. A heat sink thermocouple should be placed next to the heater to prevent reactions to temperature variations caused by the heater. In order to determine the internal heater coil temperature, Solid-sheath heaters can be fitted with internal thermocouples. Unfortunately, the failure of the thermocouple would ruin the whole assembly.
Specifications for high-temperature require high-performance heaters and design criteria, ranging from research applications to metallic plastic static dies. To achieve high temperatures and retain wattage in this way, multiple heaters operating at a lower watt density than one heater will maximize the life of the heater required.
