How Your Plants Get The Right Light

All plants need light whether it is in local nurseries Amherst NY or your home, but the need for light varies for each genus and species. As a general rule, plants that flower, bear fruit or have variegated leaves need more light than plants that "only" have green foliage. Most of our houseplants come from tropical or subtropical areas. Here the lighting conditions can vary from dimly lit places at the bottom of the jungle, to open, bright grass areas and even mountain terrain. Even though a plant has been moved from its place of origin, it still has the same lighting needs that must be covered in order for the plant to survive

Natural Light:
The question is not whether sunlight is best, but how much sunlight the plant needs and for how long. The amount of light in a room or just part of the room changed a lot during a day. Plants from dry areas, such as succulents and cacti, are the only plants that tolerate direct sunlight throughout the day. Some plants tolerate direct sunlight for shorter periods daily without getting damaged. Others still prefer indirect or filtered light. The basic understanding of a plant's lighting needs is important for the plant to thrive.

Light From Incandescent Bulbs:
Incandescent bulbs are the light source used in most homes. Incandescent bulbs have a high proportion of red light, which is necessary for plants with flowers. However, the total proportion of blue and violet rays is not large enough. Therefore, the light bulb light is not suitable as the only light source for plants, but can be used in combination with fluorescent light if no natural sunlight is available.

Fluorescent Light:
Lamps with fluorescent lamps are common in office areas, and to some extent in homes. The light differs from the light given by an incandescent bulb in that it contains a high proportion of blue light, which is used for foliage formation. Plants that grow primarily with the help of foliage can therefore cope with fluorescent light alone. You can buy plant lighting that gives blue, violet and red light.

Halogen Light:

Light from halogen lamps is many times more intense than light from incandescent bulbs. The most widely used halogen lamps have a full and complete range of light colors. The balance between blue and white light provides the plant with everything it needs to grow and flourish. Halogen lamps are often used when growing large plants indoors.

The Light Needs Of The Plants:
Although houseplants can be grown successfully by artificial lighting, most are near a window with natural sunlight, possibly. supplemented with artificial lighting.

Full Light:
The plant stands in a place where there is at least five hours of direct sunlight a day. These are the plant types that have the greatest need for light. Very few houseplants can withstand full light all day. The sun's rays can be amplified by the window glass, and the temperature can reach a level where the barrel is burned. Even plants that thrive in direct sunlight in nursery garden center Lewiston NY should be placed slightly away from windows and protected from the sun during the summer months.

Partial Sun:
Here the plant only gets a few hours of direct sunlight during the winter months. The rest of the day the plant is bright with indirect or filtered sunlight. Most flowering plants will thrive and bloom under these conditions.
