Best Way to Handle Deadly Bleeds With A First-Aid Kit

Injuries and certain medical conditions can cause bleeding. This can induce anxiety and fear, but the bleeding has a healing purpose. Still, you need to understand how to treat common bleeding episodes, such as cuts and nosebleeds, and when to seek medical help. Before beginning treatment for an injury, it is best to determine its severity as best you can.

There are times when you shouldn't try to give first aid at all. If you suspect internal bleeding, or if there is an embedded object around the injury site, call your local emergency services immediately and use your first aid course skills. The following steps will help you manage a bleeding emergency.:-

  • Clean Cloth on the Wound

Place a sterile bandage or clean cloth on the wound. Press the bandage firmly with your palm to control bleeding. Apply constant pressure until the bleeding stops. Maintain pressure by binding the wound with a thick bandage or a piece of clean cloth. Don't put direct pressure on an eye injury or embedded object. Secure the bandage with adhesive tape or continue to maintain pressure with your hands.

  • Use Tea Towels:

Take the cleanest thread-count cotton tea towels from your kitchen and unfold them so that the cleanest part is back in the wound. You should avoid fuzzy tea towels because they have a larger surface area and are more susceptible to bacteria and stick to the wound as it heals.

  • Apply direct pressure to the wound

Put direct pressure on the wound, if possible with a sterile bandage or a clean, non-fluffy cloth, to stop the bleeding. If you don't have a bandage, you can ask them to do it themselves. The wound is covered with the victim's clothing. Remove or cut off clothing to expose the wound. If there is an object in the wound, do not remove it. It can act as a stopper to reduce bleeding.

  • Use Tourniquets

A tourniquet is effective in controlling life-threatening bleeding from a limb. Apply a tourniquet when you can do so. When emergency assistance arrives, explain how long the tourniquet has been in place.
