HOW NRA-CET REFORMS THE SELECTION PROCESS ? HOW CANDIDATES BENEFIT THROUGH NRA-CET ?

The Fate of NRA-CET Exam in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the National Recruitment Agency (NRA) as a “boon for crores of youngsters”. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the proposal for NRA (National Recruitment Agency) in the Union Budget 2020 with a vision to simplify the recruitment process for non-gazette posts in central government and public sector banks.

HOW NRA-CET REFORMS THE SELECTION PROCESS

At present, around 2.5-3 crores candidates aspiring to work with the central government or public sector banks have to appear for separate examinations based on the department or designation. Different types of recruiting agencies conduct these selection tests.

NRA will conduct a Common Eligibility Test (CET) to screen the candidates at a preliminary level for SSC, IBPS, and RRB.

This computer-based online examination will select the eligible candidates for – Group-B (non-gazette), Group-C (non-technical), and clerical posts in central government Equivalent positions in public sector banks. It streamlines the selection process. The applicants for central government jobs or banking jobs no longer need to fill up separate applications for separate posts. It saves them time and money for the applicants. In CET, the curriculum and the standard for all tests are common. There is a common portal for registration with numerous centers to choose from.

HOW CANDIDATES BENEFIT THROUGH NRA-CET

  • One Test for All

The candidates aspiring to work for the central government or public sector banks have to qualify for a single entrance exam to apply for the final selection test through different recruitment agencies.

  • One Fee for All Examinations

The aspiring candidates no longer have to pay separate fees to multiple agencies for separate preliminary exams.

  • Additional Cost Reduction

Candidates can avoid the expenses related to traveling or boarding as CET will be conducted in many districts. At present, the candidates have to pay the exam-conducting authorities for issues related to security, law-and-order, and venue. They can avoid this additional expense.

  • Easily Accessible Exam Centers

The infrastructure for CET is planned to be created in 117 Aspirational Districts. Thus, candidates from rural or remote areas can easily come to the examination center.

  • Multilingual Approach

CET is currently available in 12 languages intending to include all languages in the 8th Schedule of The Constitution.

  • Common Standard of Final Exam

The curriculum for the final selection test for SSC, RRB, or IBPS will be common making it easier for the candidates to prepare for the exams.

  • No Limitation on Number of Attempts

A candidate’s CET score is valid for three years (starting from the date of the result). A candidate may appear for the CET multiple times (no limitation on the number of attempts) subject to the upper age limit.

THE NEXT STEPS FORWARD

The central government plans to introduce a uniform and transformative process through NRA-CET. At present, 2.5-3 crore candidates appear for around 1.25 lakh vacancies each year in the central government and the aspiring candidates have to appear for separate preliminary exams. However, NRA will conduct a single Common Eligibility Test (CET) from the next year.

NRA will conduct separate Common Eligibility Tests (CET) for candidates who are:

Graduate

Qualified at the higher-secondary (12th standard) level exam

Qualified at matriculating (10th standard) level exam

After qualifying at CET, an aspiring candidate can apply for a position with the respective agencies (SSC, RRB, and IBPS). They will conduct specialized tiers (II, III) of exams for final selection before recruitment.

CONCLUSION

The introduction of NRA-CET reforms the process of recruiting eligible candidates for non-gazetted (Group-B), non-technical (Group-C), and clerical posts in central government or public sector banks. Therefore, the aspiring candidates have to qualify for a single preliminary exam to apply for the final selection test through SSC, RRB, and IBPS.
