

An analgesic is a substance which reduces your pain. They differ from the anesthetics which generally produces a temporary effect and in certain instances eliminate sensation. The choice of analgesics chiefly depends on the type of pain. For example, in cases of neuralgic pain traditional analgesics are not that effective and gets relief from class of drugs which falls under tricyclic antidepressants and anticonvulsants.
Classification Of Analgesics
These are classified on the basis of mechanism of their action. These are certain examples of it-:
- Paracetamol- it is also known as acetaminophen, a medicine which is used to treat pain and mild fever. It is generally prescribed in mild to moderate cases. Though, now it is used in combination with the opioid pain medication to treat severe cases like cancer pain or even after surgery.
- Nsaids- these are called as Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. These are used to treat pain and low fever. In higher doses it can reduce inflammation. These includes drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen etc. These produce Non Narcotic pain Relief.
- Opioids- using of opioids and central analgesics in appropriate doses is considered safe and effective. People those who are opioid tolerant require high doses of it. Though opioids are very effective analgesics, it may result in unpleasant side effects. For instance, people getting treated with morphine may experience nausea, vomiting.
- Cannabis- these are given to treat diseases or improve symptoms of the patient. There are few reports which suggests that cannabis can be used to treat chronic pain and muscle spasms and certain cases have also revealed relieves neuralgic pain more than the opioids.
