On 6th November 2006: Paul Azinger Became Captain of the American Ryder Cup

In 2006, Paul Azinger was named captain of the American Ryder Cup to compete in the 2008 tournament in Valhalla, Louisville, Kentucky. Azinger won the 1993 PGA Championship in Inverness and previously participated in four Ryder Cups, including the US team's 1991 and 1993 victories. Azinger said of his choice, "He faced a tough task in 2008, this is the greatest honor you can give to a professional golfer."

Before that, the American team beat the Irish team with a record-breaking record led by former captain Tom Lehman in 2006 and lost the Ryder Cup for the third time in a row. Beat the European team for the first time since 1999.

While the United States missed out on the world's No. 1 Tiger Woods due to injury, they have had a 16.5-11.5 success with four games to go.

Azinger also changed the qualifier for the tournament to have four wildcard picks instead of two, and postponed his final team selection to allow players to find status.

He outlined this innovative strategy in his book "Cracking the Code: Strategies for Winning the Ryder Cup: Making It Work for You," published in May 2010.

This book was written in collaboration with Ron Braund, a team builder, and corporate psychologist, who consulted with Azinger during the Ryder Cup.

This is Azinger's second book after ending the fight against cancer. In December 1993, he was identified with non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the right shoulder. His treatment included 6 months of chemotherapy and 5 weeks of radiation therapy in California.

Seven years later, Azinger struggled back in Hawaii and won the PGA Tour Championship.
