What is the difference between Air Force Groups X and Y?

The Indian Air Force recruits candidates for a variety of trades, including technical, which is required to maintain various technical objects or machines in the Indian Air Force, and non-technical, which is required to provide support services to keep this equipment running smoothly. Technical traders are referred to as the 'X' group, whereas non-technical trades are referred to as the 'Y' group. These X and Y group candidates are referred to as Airmen or PBORs, which stands for "persons below officer rank."

 

Male students from the Science stream in Class 12th, such as Physics and Mathematics, may apply for the X group test, whereas male candidates from any stream in Class 12th can apply for the Y group examination.

 

Aside from the distinction between Technical and Non-Technical Trades, the Air Force Group X and Y exams vary in a number of other ways. In this post, we will discuss the characteristics of these two trades that vary from one another.

 


Difference Between X & Y Group in Job Role

Group X - Trades and Tasks: 

 

Members of Group X get technical instruction in areas such as radar, engines, electrical systems, and airframes. The major aim for the X group applicants is to be technically competent enough to repair the equipment on which they operate. Many short/long-term training is offered to familiarize employees with new equipment and ensure its proper operation. The majority of X organizations' work environments are open spaces, tarmacs, hangars, and nature-friendly locations. They may be called upon at any time if necessary; most X group candidates do not have set morning working hours and instead work shifts to fulfil their responsibilities.

 

Automobile Fitter:

 

The applicant in this profession is in charge of maintaining and repairing all forms of light and heavy-duty mechanical vehicles, cranes, and loading equipment, among other things.

 

Electronics Fitter:

 

Radar, Voice & Data transmission, and reception equipment placed on aerial weapon delivery systems and ground-based air defence systems are operated and maintained by an Electronics Fitter.

 

Electrical Fitter:

 

An Electric Fitter is responsible for maintaining the power supply systems of modern aircraft, airborne missiles, and ground equipment.

 

Mechanical System Fitter:

 

He works on airborne missiles, engines, vehicles, and aircraft fueling equipment, repairing and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

 

Structures Fitter:

 

A candidate for the position of Structure Fitter is responsible for the repair and service of aircraft airframes, accessories, components, and controls. He will also be responsible for aircraft marshalling, parking, picketing, and ground handling.

 

Propulsion Fitter:

 

A candidate in this profession will repair, maintain, and prepare for the usage of airplanes and other aerial weapon delivery systems' propulsion systems.

 


Group Y – Trades and Tasks:

 

Non-technical training is provided to the Y group, such as medical assistants, security sections, police, musician, and so on. They are in charge of administrative, disciplinary, welfare, and paper duties at all times. Only a few or chosen courses are offered. For better working circumstances and the highest production, well-furnished offices are occupied. They have the option of having set working hours.

 

Admin Assistant:

 

A candidate for the position of Admin Assistant will be responsible for maintaining and analyzing personnel records, files, and information. He's also in charge of ration supply and clean-up.

 

Accounts Assistant:

 

Accounts Assistant keeps track of salary and allowances, equipment, logistical transactions, public funds, and cash flow, among other things.

 

Medical Assistant:

 

He'll learn about nursing and first aid, as well as medical store administration, dispensary management, and ward monitoring.

 

Logistics Assistant:

 

The acquisition, storage, and administration of inventory control, as well as the accounting of military goods, are all responsibilities of a Logistics Assistant.

 

Assistant for Environmental Support Services (ESSA):

 

The maintenance of the firefighting component is part of this task. It also required that a candidate maintain the Air Force Campus's cleanliness.

 

Ops Assistant:

 

As an Ops Assistant, you'll be responsible for operating numerous systems such as the Air Traffic Control Center, the AirField, and the Air Defense System. He'll be taught how to operate radars, display units, and other equipment.

 

Meteorological Assistant:

 

A Meteorological Assistant receives training in weather observation and meteorological instrument maintenance.

 

Ground Training Assistant:

 

Personnel will be trained in drill, parade, weapon handling, and physical exercise by a Ground Training Instructor.

 


PAY STRUCTURE DIFFERENCE:

 

The Air Force Group X Y salary is the same during the training. Both groups get a monthly stipend of Rs. 14,600/- throughout training. Following completion of training, they are paid as follows:

 

Group X – Technical: Rs. 33,100 per month + DA (as applicable), which may increase in later years as the individual's career progresses.

 

Aside from the pay scale/structure, X groups are entitled to technical pay and allowances.

 

Group Y – Non-Technical: Rs. 26,900 per month + DA (as applicable), which may increase in following years as the individual's career progresses. Pay scales and pay structures for Y groups are limited.
