Writing Mom Birthday Wishes for Beginners - 9 Tips

Stop me if you've been there: someone close to you is celebrating their birthday today.

You got the present ready and wrapped up, and you're ready to head out for their celebration.

Alternatively, you may have just got the reminder for their birthday on your phone. Now - all that's missing is... What do I wish them, what do I write in their greeting card (or Facebook wall post), and most importantly - I have no writing expertise, how can I nevertheless share with them a birthday card that will differ from previous years, and will stand out from the other numerous greeting cards, wishes and birthday messages they will receive today for their birthday.

Because - who doesn't want (after all the time and efforts invested), their birthday card to be the best one of the bunch?

In this guide we'll take mom's birthday as an example, but for this matter - it can be anyone you care about.

Being an avid writer myself, for many years, and after serving as the "Head Family Writer" for every occasion celebrated in our family, I thought it's a good chance to gather 9 tips that will direct you how to write happy birthday mom wishes the best possible way.

So without further adieu, here are the tips you can practice, starting your next greeting card to mom, or to anyone else:

1. If you can't think of enough ideas to fill up an entire mother greeting card, do not panic. Instead, try to reminisce on all the adventures, experiences, facts (and yes, secrets), you know about mom and incorporate them in her birthday card. If you care enough about any person to write them a birthday card, surely you know enough about them to fill one up.

2. Don't be too serious and emotional. Emotions are good and they add a lot to any birthday card, but make sure to mix up enough humor throughout your messages and wishes, to make it a little less "heavy" to read.

3. If you can incorporate rhymes as well, it would add up a lot of entertainment and differentiation to your birthday card. You can use many websites that give you complete rhymes lists for every word - all easily and all free.

4.Don't be like everyone else. What I mean is - although it's tempting to use the generic birthday words and wishes we all know and read everywhere online, remember - we sat out to be different and original, so try to come up with more original ideas.

5. You can supplement your greeting cards wishes with beautiful quotes. Everyone enjoys good quotes, and you can easily locate relevant and famous quotes about birthdays and wishes, family, parenthood etc. online. Quotes are also of course free to use and the variety out there is endless.

6. Present the birthday card in a unique way. Don't just settle for a Whatsapp message or Facebook post - that's what everyone else does. Try to present your birthday card differently, like for example - reading it to the person celebrating, surprising with it inside a gift, or any other unique way.

7. Plan ahead - your birthday cards would, by definition, be more well-rounded and complete if you start working on them 2-3 days before the birthday date and not on the same day. This would also take the pressure off you at the celebration day if you arrive prepared.

8. Invest a little effort in the physical design of the birthday card. The package around the wording (i.e design, art, paper type etc.) really affects the overall experience. 9. Most importantly - make it easy on yourself. There are a lot of happy birthday messages and wishes websites that you could get ideas and inspiration from (again - most of them are 100% free).

After reading the tips above, I'm sure you'd come to realize that it's much easier to write original birthday wishes than you initially thought.

It might take you 5, maybe 10, birthday card writing sessions to become an expert, but every big journey starts with small steps. Trust me - I've been there.

Good luck with your efforts, and happy birthday to whoever celebrating next!
