Hill or plain – The Renault Triber Engine has got your back

My wife and I, with our two kids, were visiting my cousin Edwin who lives in Siliguri. From there, we were going to go to Namchi to visit my aunt. So, her son, Edwin, offered to drive us there in his new Renault Triber, and he would take this opportunity to visit her himself, along with his wife and daughter. To be honest, I didn’t know whether the Renault Triber engine would be powerful enough to climb the mountainous roads, but boy was I proven wrong!

The first surprise I got was that all seven of us fit comfortably inside the car. We didn’t need the 625L boot space since we would only spend two days there. The modular seating design of the Renault Triber meant that we simply put in the third row of seats, and the kids happily curled up in it.

I sat in the front with Edwin and spent the first few minutes of the drive admiring the stylish dual tone dashboard with silver accents. There was sophistication and warmth to the deep black and beige interiors, and the LED instrument cluster behind the steering wheel seemed to blend seamlessly into the overall design. The 20.32 cm MediaNAV Evolution touchscreen system complemented the overall look of the dash nicely too. The AC vents were thoughtfully placed for both the second and third row of seats, and unlike most cars, the Renault Triber engine didn’t keep whining and grumbling even with the twin AC on!

As we started climbing the mountainous roads, I thought for a moment about all those accidents we hear on the news. Edwin might’ve noticed this and reassured me that with Renault Triber, I didn’t need to worry, especially since it is the safest among all 7-seater cars in India, with a Global NCAP rating of 4-star for adults and 3-star for kids.

The Renault Triber engine comes mated with both manual and automatic transmissions, and Edwin had chosen the AMT version. Until we hit the highway, the road was packed with cars, but Edwin told me about how the Traffic Assist function of the easy-R automated manual transmission removed any headache of the stop-and-go traffic.

As the roads became steeper, I wondered how the car would respond, but I realized I was being foolish to be concerned. The peppy 1L 3-cylinder petrol energy engine delivered 96 Nm of torque. Not only was it more than adequate for the road we were on, but the Renault Triber engine didn’t even groan for a second as we navigated across the mountains.

We stopped on the way for lunch, and bought some soft drinks for the kids, which Edwin stored in the upper and lower cooled glove box. That was when I spent some time checking out the car, and it was every bit as amazing on the outside. Right from the triple edge chrome front grille to the roof rails, the alloy wheels and the SUV skid plates, the overall impression was that of ruggedly built car that could easily handle any terrain. The projector headlamps with LED DRLs and the eagle beak split tail lamps also added to the muscular stance of the car.

Halfway through, Edwin and I switched seats for me to drive the rest of the way. I was in for another pleasant surprise. Unlike almost every other car in this segment, the Renault Triber offers 6-way adjustable driver’s seat!

Edwin saw my delight, and said, ‘Hey, you know, the Renault Triber starts at just Rs 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), just in case you were wondering.’

He had clearly read my mind! The first thing I did when we reached my aunt’s home was book a test drive for the Renault Triber.
