Waiting for the interview

To ensure that you are being waited on by the hiring manager, it is a good idea for you to arrive 5 minutes before interview starts. While you wait, review your notes and discuss the job, your goals, and other key points.

Take a look at the activity in the reception area. You'll probably see and hear things that will give you an idea of the company's energy. It's possible to strike up a conversation with someone working there. Although it may seem insignificant, this can help you to approach your interview with more insight. You'll be able to have a small conversation with the interviewer, and perhaps notice a beautiful view or a piece on the wall.

It is better to spend 5 minutes preparing than catching up on social networks - we are confident!

Meet the hiring manager

It's important not to let nerves get in your way of a friendly and natural greeting when you meet the hiring manager. Smile, shake hands and look at them in the eyes. Do not get too involved in talking about yourself here. You have the whole interview to talk about you. You might instead want to have a friendly icebreaker, like the one we discussed above. You could also ask them questions. What is their week like? Asking and listening are the best ways to learn. This is a great time to get any additional information about the company that you meet.

Your hiring manager will take you to a meeting room where you will meet all other attendees. To make it stick, you will greet each person one by one and then repeat their name ("Hello, Tim")

You can always take notes along with you and keep them handy. Otherwise, the interview might become unnatural.

Interview

It's now time to have a conversation. It's easy to talk about your job and experience. You can find great insights about job interviews in our articles and resource. Make sure you check them out!

After the interview

It's time for next steps to be confirmed once the process is complete. Usually, you will be given a timeline for the next stage and finding out whether your name has been shortlisted. You can ask if you haven't been shortlisted.

As you depart, make it a point to say goodbye to everyone in the interview as well as to the receptionist.

Congratulations! You made it through the interview. You must remain professional as long as your body is still inside the building. We see candidates making the common mistake of talking to their friends and family while they are still in the building. You never know who might be listening. Keep these conversations to a minimum and keep them out of the earshot of any potential listeners.

Absolute IT will contact you to find out the status of your job. We can also help you plan the next steps and offer other opportunities.

During the interview, you may have some questions that you would like to ask. This is perfectly acceptable. We suggest that you combine a courtesy email to thank the hiring manager and 1-2 pressing questions about your role.

Reflection on the interview process is crucial, regardless of whether you are successful. You will feel more relaxed and comfortable the more interviews you take. Practice makes perfect, just like any other skill.
