Special designated A-Ring Road for buses, taxis, authorized vehicles

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the appointment of a special bus route, taxis, and vehicles on A-Ring Road, to facilitate traffic flow and to provide transport for the FIFA World Cup 2022. This was done in collaboration with the Executive Committee for Inheritance (SC), the Interior Ministry, the Department of Transport, and Mowasalat (Karwa), Ashghal said in a statement on Saturday.

Abdul-Aziz al-Mawlawi, director-general of Mobility at SC, said: The bus route will help provide smooth and environmentally friendly transportation information to thousands of fans during the Qatar World Cup 2022. We would like to thank all our key stakeholders for managing this important project, which will directly benefit fans and officials during the tournament and help Qatar launch a commendable event, he said.

Lieutenant Khalid Nasser al-Mulla, head of the technical team of the Corniche Closure Committee, said the new route would be arranged for public transport buses, taxis, and authorized vehicles such as emergency vehicles. All required traffic signals and indicators in support of law enforcement and road safety monitoring in future phases have been developed.

He added that the presence of a designated public bus lane will create a more comfortable bus lane, which will contribute to reducing travel time, promoting the use of public transport, and reducing the number of public transport on the street. The route will also facilitate the arrival of police and emergency vehicles at the scene and facilitate the rapid evacuation of the area, which in turn reduces traffic congestion on the A-Ring Road and access roads, in addition to reducing the mixing of buses and other cars. This is in line with the steps that will be taken during the competition to reduce the use of public transport, as it will operate on environmentally friendly buses.

He added: The A-Ring Road bus route was chosen for transport during the Qatar World Cup 2022 to achieve the desired goals, but this does not preclude the study of future permanent bus routes on important roads and country roads, in line. with a comprehensive national transport plan, Qatar 2050, and a project to learn the importance of bus routes to be developed by the Department of Transport within the Qatar public transport network and to evaluate proposed measures in this regard.

Al-Marri emphasized that the Department of Transport is working to improve general transport knowledge through urban and eco-friendly systems that provide transportation to various parts of the world. Mohamed Ali al-Marri, secretary of the Corniche Closure Committee, said: The move comes after increasing the number of lanes on A-Ring Road from two to four on each side, to improve road capacity and traffic flow and reduce congestion.

The A-Ring Road runs from Ras Bu Abboud Bridge to Al Diwan Intersection and Al Rayyan Road, and is considered one of the main routes in Doha as it connects many commercial and residential areas with facilities, in addition to connecting many tourists places like the National Museum of Qatar, the Museum of Islamic Art, Souq Waqif, Al Bidda Park, and development projects in Doha Central such as Msheireb Downtown Doha, he said.

Ahmed Hassan al-Obaidly, chief executive officer of Operations in Mowasalat (Karwa), said: This route contributes to reducing the travel time for public transport buses on A-Ring Road and Doha Central, as well as facilitating the arrival of public transport buses on time and achieve the integration of the transport system (buses and Metro). These developments will encourage the public to use public transport and create a free and fast taxi system.

This route will benefit from various environmental benefits such as reducing the number of private vehicles on the road and promoting the use of environmentally friendly public transport, leading to reduced CO2 emissions and improved air quality, in addition to improving bus fuel efficiency and thus achieving the desired environmental sustainability.

Determining the public transport route on A-Ring Road is one of the steps taken by the committee responsible for managing the Corniche Street closure program, and other important bus routes passing through different routes will be determined in due course, the statement added.
