How To Tell If Your Driver Is Too Tired To Drive

You should never drive exhausted or sleepy; it is one of the golden driving rules every driver should know. But if you are driving a hundred-kilometre journey without any breaks, it is possible for your eyes to droop and your head to drop whilst behind the wheel. This situation is deadly. Driver fatigue management helps prevent this scenario from happening.

Here are the telltale signs of driver fatigue:

1. Repeated yawning

We all know that yawning means you are sleepy. If you catch yourself or your driver yawning frequently, it is better to park the car in a safe spot and get a nap. You can also substitute with your passenger if they happen to be a driver.

2. Inattentiveness

Do you have difficulty focusing on driving or keeping your eyes on the road? Perhaps, your vision starts to blur, and you need to blink a few times to keep them open. It only means that you are sleepy. A drowsiness detection system can detect this sign of driver fatigue.

3. Swerving and drifting in and out of lane

Responsible drivers make sure to stick with their lane. Drifting and swerving can cause a road accident. If you catch your vehicle wandering out of your lane without noticing it, it means that you are tired and need a break. Your driver monitoring system also recognises this sign of driver fatigue.

4. Ignoring road signs

Drivers must pay attention to road signs, such as speed limit, entry and exit points, the road turns, and more. These signs can be tiny, and if you are not paying close attention, you are likely to miss some.

5. Seeing things jumping out of the road and breaking frequently

If you are driving on a busy highway and you see something jumping out from the side of the road, it might not be an animal or pedestrian. You could be mildly hallucinating, much worse, dreaming. It is not something your blind spot detection sensor can detect.

Swerving and stopping are drivers' knee jerk reactions to this, which could cause accidents.

Never drive sleepy and exhausted.
