Website Design and Development Tips

Many of the web developers out there aren't practicing proper cms development or web design. This has caused many websites to be simply put, bad. Some of the biggest mistakes developers make is focusing on the wrong things. It seems like way too many developers are focusing on fancy features rather than actual usability.

Developers also miss out on a lot of opportunities to optimize for search engines. For example, there are a lot of websites that don't allow the search engine to crawl the entire site. Or, they don't use title tags, or meta description tags properly. There are a lot of ways developers can be leaving money on the table.

Website designers and developers think that beautiful, flashy websites are what's most important for their businesses. While the visual design does have to be good, and very important, there are other things that have to be taken into consideration, such as the following: * Functionality * Load time * Scalability * Back-end programming * Ease of customization * These are just a few of the things that must be given attention to and addressed when developing a website.

Website design and development mistakes are plenty. And they are mostly because of miscommunication between developer and designer. Here are some common mistakes:

1) No Navigation - If a visitor to the website cannot find any navigation, they are unlikely to spend any time on the site. Navigation should be above the fold to ensure that it is easily found. It should also be intuitive so visitors can find what they are looking for quickly

2) Overly complex designs - The website design should make it easy for users to find the information they need. If your site is too complex, you risk turning off your visitors.

3) Over-the-top Flash section - Flash sections are a lot more common than they used to be. Let's face it, Flash isn't everyone's cup of tea. If you use Flash, make sure it's only used for important and relevant content. Don't use it just for decoration.

4) Content out of place - Content should always be placed in a logical order, making it easy for users to find what they need. Make sure you place related content near each other. Don't mix unrelated content with related content. Don't spread out your content over the whole site.

5) Lack of focus. You should always have a clear idea of who your target audience is and what you want your website to achieve. If you don't, you risk going down the wrong path.
