5 Essential Tools to Calibrate Your Monitor

You may be wondering why you need to adjust your monitor. Although surveillance technology is evolving, the color and contrast of LCD monitors can change over time. You might not notice it right away, but in the end this color shift can result in a very misleading image. External Camera Screen Adjusting your monitor is essential to ensure accuracy and maintain a consistent look and feel across your production.

Fortunately, all SmallHD monitors are factory adjusted prior to shipment. When using the monitor, the panel should be readjusted regularly to ensure flawless image reproduction. You can also customize the onset display to match the post-house monitor for consistency throughout the imaging pipeline.

I want to make sure I have everything I need to calibrate my monitor. Below are the five items you need to set up your monitor, along with links to external resources to help you.

Calibrate color probe

Ideally, the calibration probe should be able to handle a brightness of at least 2000 nits and a contrast ratio of 1:100,000. As a rule of thumb, the calibration probe should process more meshes than the monitor's maximum mesh size. Popular professional calibration probes include Klein Instruments K-10A and Colorimetry Research CR-100.

SmallHD uses the Klein probe with Calman software. Some calibration probes come with their own software, but you can use alternative free or open source software such as DisplayCAL, Calibrize, or NaturalColorPro.

Computer with HDMI or SDI output

In addition to being paired with the color probe, the calibration software must send a video test pattern to the monitor being calibrated. All you need is a video output connected to a computer and a monitor running the software.

Most computers have an HDMI output built in, or you can use a consumer adapter. However, if you are looking for a robust SDI connection, you will need an external video interface such as a capture card or a Blackmagic Design UltraStudio 3G recorder.

SD card

Back to the software - When the calibration is complete, the software will generate a calibration LUT. To use this LUT on your monitor, transfer the file from your computer to an SD card. Then insert the SD card into your monitor and select the Calibration LUT in PageOS. Now we've brought ourselves into a world where "what you see is what you get". Finally, it could be the first. i need a lh5pii monitor If you are using a SmallHD monitor, it must be running the latest PageOS software. This monitor calibration process can be converted between all SmallHD monitors running PageOS. If you're not sure if your SmallHD monitor software is up to date, see the firmware update page.
