Upper Mustang Trekking Overviews:
Upper Mustang Trekking, a picturesque wild country of Nepal Far North Western Himalayas, beyond Mt. Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain range.
The region is protected as a restricted area, once it was closed but opened in 1992 for foreign visitors.
The Upper Mustang is an extension of the world's highest and largest southwest plateau of Tibet. Where culture, and heritage of way of life are similar to its predecessors, also known as another side of Tibet.
Truly a remarkable country to experience once in a lifetime, where a walk leads you into moonscapes terrain. Bounded by a huge red-colored canyon and wind-blown eroded towering cliff walls, dotted with spiritual small caves.
Which makes the Upper Mustang, a unique place to visit for various types of adventures, culturally rich along with spectacular scenery.
At one time the only passage to Tibet, where Trans Himalaya Salt, Caravan Trade Route passed through Mustang. Trade still exists between Nepal and Tibet, the border with Tibet is close to the Karo-La pass of Upper Mustang.
The trek begins after a short scenic flight from beautiful Pokhara city to Jomsom, the headquarters town of Mustang. Walk follows through Kagbeni to enter Upper Mustang territory within the last forbidden kingdom of Himalaya.
The adventure leads to high passes, visiting nice villages of Chusang, Ghiling, and Charang, then at the former walled kingdom of Lo-Manthang.
An exciting place takes you back to a medieval era, of narrow paved streets, and houses lined close to each other. Interesting and impressive town of Lo-Manthang amid wild mountainous country, the tour of its old monasteries.

Upper Mustang Trek Detailed Itinerary:
Day 01:Arrival in Kathmandu 1,300 m and transfer to hotel.
On the first arrival at Kathmandu, our staff receives you for a short drive to your hotel. Checking the nice rooms and then briefing is held by our guide and leaders regarding the treks with necessary information. Evening a group dinner in Nepali restaurants, and return to the hotel. Getting ready and packing for the next morning’s overland journey to Pokhara.
Day 02:Tour of Kathmandu heritage sites of great interest.
Enjoy exciting tour around Kathmandu steeped with world heritage sites adorned with the country’s beautiful landmarks. The tour allows visitors an introduction to Nepalese cultures of both Hindu and Buddhism religions. Rest of the afternoon preparation for Upper Mustang Trekking.
Day 03:Fly or drive to Pokhara 860 m (30 mins by air)-06 hours on road.
The morning after breakfast by 7 a.m. depending upon group size either in a car, coach or tourist comfortable bus. Where drive takes you to Nepal Mid-West at beautiful Pokhara, the leading touristic city blessed with natural wonders.
On arrival transfer to a nice hotel near the serene Phewa lake, with time to browse around the street at the lakeside.

Day 04: Fly to Jomsom 2,715 m and trek to Kagbeni 2,807 m -04 hrs.
Depart from the hotel for the morning flight to Jomsom in a small aircraft, a short flight of fewer than 30 minutes. On landing at Jomsom, headquarter and the main town of Mustang district. Follow the guide past Jomsom heading towards Kaligandaki River valley the walk ends on reaching Kagbeni village. The entrance to Upper Mustang, an interesting village of strong Tibetan influence.
Day 05: Trek to Chusang 2,920 m - 06 hrs.
From Kagbeni, enter the wild territory of Upper Mustang as the walk leads through wild windswept terrain. Walk beneath towering eroded cliffs and a wide canyon, as the walk slowly ends at Chusang village for an overnight halt.
Day 06: Trek to Samar 3,290 m -06 hrs.
An interesting day walk from Chusang onwards climbs up to scenic high passes, facing a grand vista of snow-capped peaks. The walk follows within dramatic country landscapes the walk leads to a nice village of Samar for an overnight stop.
Day 07: Trek to Ghiling 3,600 m -06 hrs.
After a pleasant stop at Samar, the walk leads on the gradual wide path that can be quite windy during the afternoon. Walk follows several smaller settlements and isolated huts of Yak herders then reaches lovely Ghiling village. Overnight stop in the comfort of a nice homely type lodge or guest house.
Day 08: Trek to Charang 3,520 m -05 hrs.
Walk continues after a good breakfast crossing high scenic passes, and traversing from one valley to another. The route is well established as you follow through the number of interesting villages lined with long prayer walls and spinning religious wheels.
Climb to a high ridge, and then walk down to a charming village of Charang surrounded by wide crops fields. Overnight in a nice lodge with time to visit the old impressive monastery of great cultural and religious interest.
Day 09: Trek to Lo Manthang 3,780 m /12,402 ft. -05 hours.
The morning walk leads to the main highlight of the journey, leaving Charang to enjoy the surrounding views of beautiful scenery. Walk on the gentle path to a bridge and then a short climb to a high ridge, facing a view of Lo-Manthang’s walled kingdom.
From the high hill descend to a stream and then head towards the main entrance of the great walled kingdom of Lo-Manthang. Check into a nice lodge and guest house for two overnight stops.
Day 10: At Lo Manthang rest day for local excursion.
A full day at the exciting kingdom of Lo-Manthang, a morning tour of the important monasteries with special permission to visit the fort palace. The tour includes of Namgyal Gompa, Champa Lakhang (God House), Red Thubchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa, and the great Entrance Hall. The rest of the afternoon is free at leisure to browse around this exciting old town of the medieval time period.
Day 11: Trek to Ghami 3,440 m - 06 hrs.
After a wonderful time at Lo Manthang, a pleasant long day walk to Ghami village heading for a steep climb for short while and then down towards a junction, where Charang and Ghami trail separates. Enjoy the lovely scenery as the walk finally ends on reaching a lovely village of Ghami for overnight halt.
Day 12: Trek to Samar 3,150 m -05 hrs.
From Ghami walk uphill and down towards Syangbochen, as the route leads through a number of small villages. As the trail follows the ups and down path to reach Samar village for the last overnight around Upper Mustang.
Day 13: Trek to Kagbeni -05 hours.
An exciting day, following the same trail of the previous day on scenic areas with climb over high passes and then walking in between red-colored canyons and wind-blown cliffs. As the walk slowly leads to the end of the Upper Mustang boundary reaching Kagbeni village for the overnight stop.
Day 14: Trek to Jomsom -04 hours with a free afternoon.
From Kagbeni, an easy short day as morning walk follows the main Kaligandaki River flat plain and then reaches back at Jomsom for last overnight around Mustang area. Jomsom provides lovely hotels and lodges of great comfort with comprehensive food menus to enjoy the final day.
Day 15: Fly to Pokhara at 860 m and enjoy the afternoon at leisure.
A short walk to Jomsom airport terminal, as the plane arrives from Pokhara, then board in a small airplane. A swift scenic flight brings you to beautiful Pokhara. Rest of the afternoon at leisure for individual activities at Pokhara, a place with various sports activities to experience.
Day 16: Fly or drive to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.
Morning departs from the hotel for an interesting drive of six hours to Kathmandu, on the main exciting highway. On reaching Kathmandu city transfer to your hotel, and rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 17: Final Departure for homeward bound or to respective countries.
