The country has abundant sun-rays that can be harnessed for electricity generation. Despite being a relatively new source of energy, solar energy has potential to transform Pakistani society and economy.


Solar energy is a cheap, inexhaustible, indigenous and pollution-free source of electricity


As natural gas reserves are not infinite, switching to solar energy is a good idea for countries that face problems with water pollution. Solar energy is a pollution-free, renewable energy source that is not only cheap but also inexhaustible. The world receives more solar energy in one hour than all of humanity uses in a year. Moreover, solar power can reduce the amount of water pollution, which is a major concern in countries like Pakistan.


The Pakistani sun can generate up to 1000 watts of electricity per square meter. Solar energy in Pakistan has the potential to improve the standard of living of rural populations and contribute to poverty alleviation. There are projects like "Lighting a Million Lives" that are providing solar electricity to remote areas in the country. The project is aiming to electrify four thousand villages within four years. The project is already providing solar electricity to six rural villages in Sahiwal Province. In rural areas, 90% of people are not yet electrified. The cost of laying transmission lines to rural areas is high.


Wind energy is another source of renewable energy. The sun heats the atmosphere, which in turn enables the wind to blow. Wind energy is available for as long as the sun shines and the wind blows.


It is an efficient and financially effective source of electricity


Pakistan has abundant solar energy resources, making it a great place to implement solar photovoltaic installations. The World Bank has provided $100 million in financing for the Sindh Solar Energy Project, which supports the development of 400 MW of solar power projects. The World Bank has also committed $425 million for the National Transmission Modernization Project, which aims to improve the capacity of selected segments of Pakistan's national electricity transmission grid and modernize key business processes at the National Transmission Development Company.


Small hydropower projects are another effective source of energy in Pakistan. Most of these projects are located in rural areas and are approved by provincial governments. Currently, there are approximately 128 MW of small hydropower projects operating or in implementation in Pakistan. Small hydropower projects have the potential to be a cost-effective and environmentally friendly source of electricity in Pakistan.


In addition, wind power is a promising source of renewable energy in Pakistan. Pakistan is home to several well-known wind corridors with average wind speeds of 7.87 m/s. While wind power is not the most cost-effective source of electricity in Pakistan, it has the potential to be a cheaper, more reliable, and more secure source of electricity for the country. As such, it should be expanded in Pakistan.


It is a pollution-free source of electricity


Developing solar energy for Pakistan is a great opportunity for the country. With the energy crisis affecting the country, Pakistan is in need of a solution to this problem. The country's electricity network is old and weak. Solar energy can relieve this burden by providing an alternate source of electricity in rural areas. The Pakistani government is actively pursuing the use of solar energy. It has begun a solar power electricity program that will install solar systems in rural areas. The solar plants will provide power to 400 villages in Baluchistan and 100 villages in Sindh.

As a country that heavily relies on imported fuels, Pakistan needs to increase its energy production capacity. This will help reduce the country's dependence on foreign fuels, lower energy prices and increase energy security. By 2030, Pakistan could save $5 billion by converting all its electricity from fossil fuels to renewable sources. There is an enormous potential for generating solar and wind power in Pakistan. The country can meet its current electricity demand by using just 0.071 percent of its land mass.


It is a safe source of electricity


Solar energy is a sustainable and cost-efficient energy source that offers reliable and uninterrupted power supply. It is a universal source of energy that shines throughout the year, and it can be converted into useful electrical energy with the help of photovoltaic technology. Solar systems have experienced rapid growth in the past 30 years, with declining capital costs and improving performance characteristics. While solar energy is a viable option for power generation in Pakistan, there are a few obstacles to its widespread deployment. For example, there are many areas that lack electricity grids. Constant power outages are a serious problem, affecting every sector of life.

While the government has taken several steps to tap coal reserves and develop renewable sources of electricity, they haven't completely solved the problem of power outages. Though these measures will help alleviate some of the problem, they are insufficient to address the root causes of the power crisis in Pakistan. In the long run, changing the attitude of citizens towards power theft will be necessary to solve this problem. When the country has a reliable supply of electricity, citizens have less incentive to steal it.
