How to Make Sure Your Move Will Be Smooth

Is it time to move? Getting a new place to live is always exciting, but sadly, it’s also very stressful. There are just so many different things to keep in mind that it’s a true miracle people manage to stay sane while moving. Hiccups and bumps along the road are to be expected, but it doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do about it. If you’re going to move in the (close) future, here are a few things you could do to make sure the move will be nice and smooth.

Make lists

You will find yourself in a strange place – your head will feel like exploding from all the info, yet there will still be too much to remember. The run up to your move will be packed with stress while you’re going to have to pack. Real life will not stop at your convenience, and there will be kids, pets, and work deadlines to meet all while planning and packing. Making lists will help you stay organized and on top of things. Try to list everything you have to do before our move, don’t forget about your timeline. If you still have months to prepare, you might want to back off and relax, but it’s actually the best time to start planning. If you’re not sure where to start, the internet is full of useful lists you can print out and use as a blueprint.

Start early

Speaking of starting early, there is never a bad time to start planning and prepping for a move, even if it’s months away. Don’t forget that packing will inevitably take longer than you thought at first, so a head start is always a good idea. Look through your things and decide what you want to take with you and what you want to leave behind and either toss or sell. You can also donate to an organization or look for someone who might need it. Your old clothes and furniture might mean the world to someone else, so don’t immediately throw away something just because you no longer have the use of. Also, you could sell some of your old stuff and earn some money that you can use to hire professional movers when the time of the move comes closer.

Get insurance

While we do understand that you want all of your things to get from point A to point B in one piece, sometimes even the best plans can’t cover everything. Maybe you didn’t pack everything tightly enough, maybe someone else did the packing and slacked off, maybe there was a malfunction with the transportation or an accident on the road. Whatever the issue might have been, if you get furniture removals insurance in advance, you’ll sleep peacefully knowing that your belongings are protected. Not everyone offers this convenient option, so ask around and look for a company that does.

Label everything

We suggest you do our own packing (at least some of it), and to neatly and thoroughly label any and all boxes. You can always do the general “kitchen” and “bedroom” labels, but if you start early enough, you can be more thorough. You can have a box just for glasses and cutlery, a box just for cosmetics, another one for towels and bed sheets, and a whole other one for coffee and snacks. Make sure you label all sides of the boxes, as you never know which side will be visible and easiest to reach. If you can, you could also glue a small list of things you have in the box, so that next to the general “kitchen stuff” you have glasses, bowls, plates, and pans listed.

Whoever said that moving is a nightmare was undoubtedly right. That being said, it doesn’t mean that you can’t do a thing or two to change that. When you’re prepared in advance for whatever the next move has in store for you, you’ll soon realize that you’re much more relaxed. Not only is it calming to know that you have a plan in place, but actually taking steps will be of great help for you and people helping you move.
