Mahindra XUV300: Highly competitive in its class

Some buyers underestimate this vehicle as they think that it's not feature-loaded. But it has everything a buyer could ask for, including good build quality. Moreover, this sub-compact SUV is one of the bestselling Mahindra cars in India

If you buy the top-of-the-line variant, you won't complain of inadequacy until and unless you are a hard-core features-oriented buyer. The Mahindra XUV300 is an entry-level product specifically in the XUV domain. But it slots itself above the Mahindra KUV100 NXT and below the Mahindra Bolero NEO in the entire range.

Apart from that, the Mahindra XUV300 also relates to the recently-unveiled XUV400. The latter is an electric iteration with noticeable differences over the sub-compact SUV. The XUV400's length is above sub-four meters since EVs don't have tax benefits for the dimensions. However, coming back to the internal-combustion-engine (ICE) powered vehicle, the XUV300.

This feature-loaded vehicle comes with powerful engine options and an impressive safety rating. With all these offerings, it is safe to say that they can justify the XUV300 price.

However, there should be a few things that you should know about this vehicle so that buying your next daily runner becomes easy. Let's begin to learn more about it, then!

Under the hood

The carmaker made the Mahindra XUV300 cater to both petrol and diesel buyers. So, there are two engine options a customer can choose from: a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The BS6-compliant turbocharged petrol engine can churn out 109bhp and 200Nm of torque. There is another turbo-petrol engine that came out in the Turbo Sportz iteration. Moreover, the new turbo-petrol engine is more powerful than other subcompact SUV cars in its class.

This new 1.2-litre TGDi engine is good for generating 128bhp and 230Nm of torque, and you can increase the torque up to 250Nm on overboost.

Then the last option that is left is the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 115bhp and 300Nm of torque.

As for transmission varieties, you get a standard six-speed manual and an optional six-speed AMT gearbox.

Moreover, at the beginning of 2021, the indigenous carmaker added the petrol-AMT duo to create an extra option alongside the already-existing diesel-AMT. The AMT variants might not be to your liking, but it's best to take a test drive because you never know that you may end up purchasing it.

Now, the main bit is its fuel economy. Well, it's decent even if you buy a petrol-or diesel-manual combo, despite mild-hybrid technology. The XUV300's mileage ranges between 17 kmpl and 20 kmpl. All are ARAI-claimed figures, but the real-life mileage can vary with an individual's driving style and local traffic conditions.

If this vehicle sounds like a deal, you can check out the Mahindra XUV300 on-road price on the autoX website.

Inside-the-cabin

Inside the car, you will see a dual-tone interior theme of black and beige brushed aluminium inserts as window buttons, door handles, and around A/C vents. You also get a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear shifter. There are also several hard plastics on the cockpit and door panels, but they aren't of cheap quality. Overall, with the given interior design and a good amount of glass used, this subcompact crossover SUV's interior feels airy and gives a sense of plushness. The Mahindra XUV300 also offers storage compartments in the centre and door panels.

Passengers can easily store several bottles of small and large sizes. So, if you are on a trip with your loved ones, they can have a comfortable journey without making a fuss about inadequacy.

As mentioned earlier, this subcompact crossover SUV has a long list of features. Be it comfort, convenience, entertainment or safety: it has everything. Let's begin with the user interaction bit. This car has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are also USB and Aux inputs and Bluetooth connectivity. In addition, there is support for Voice Command.

As for the instrument cluster, you get an analogue display unit with an 8.89cm TFT screen that shows relevant readings, such as fuel level, distance, range, etc. Besides that, the top-of-the-line variant also gets leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped gear knob, to name a few. Further inclusions are the power windows (both front and rear), power boot, two-zone auto HVAC, 12V power socket, etc.

There is also a multi-function steering wheel from which you can enable cruise control with on-demand navigation on the instrument cluster. It is worth noting that these features are of the top-most model. So, if you want to know the XUV300 on-road price of the flagship variant, then visit autoX.

Moreover, the car also offers you a keyless entry system. And for added convenience, you get USB ports at the front and rear. For better comfort, the passenger can rest their arm on the centre armrest, which also has a storage compartment. This compartment can accommodate several things with ease.

If you are driving on a sunny day, you can take your sunglasses from the sunglass holder placed on the roof. In addition, there is also a single-pane sunroof. The sunroof is also pretty wide. So, if you want a good source of Vitamin D from sunlight, you can always open the sunroof.

On the safety front, the XUV300 has features like ABS with EBD, traction control, central locking, child-safety locks, an anti-theft alarm, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, etc. For safe driving at night, the car gets an auto-anti-glare IRVM. More on safety, this SUV has seven airbags with an impressive safety rating of five stars, awarded by the Global NCAP. If you compare the Mahindra XUV300 with its rivals, this vehicle has the highest rating in the GNCAP's crash test.

And nowadays, safety should be the customer's top priority over features. In the past few years, the rate of road accidents has taken a surge due to overspeeding and reckless driving. So, if you want to be somewhere on time, leave early or follow this famous phrase, "better late than never."

Speaking of safety features, the sub-four-metre SUV has auto-headlights, rain-sensing wipers, hill assist, SOS/Emergency assistance, etc.

With these features, the Mahindra XUV300 should be a dealbreaker for its potential customers.

Variants and Prices

The indigenous carmaker, Mahindra and Mahindra, sells the XUV300 in four trims: W4, W6, W8 and W8(O). These trims further comprise twenty-one variants in total. As mentioned earlier, there is a sports edition for performance-oriented buyers and those who love to "floor it." However, the new edition is exclusive to the W6 and W8 trims.

The starting ex-showroom price of this XUV300 is Rs 8.41 lakh for the base variant, the W4, which goes up to Rs 14.07 lakh for the top-most variant, the W8 AMT Option Diesel Dual Tone.

These prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi, as of October 2022.

It is also worth mentioning that the prices may vary from state to state. In addition, they are also subject to market change without any prior notice to the customer.

But there is nothing to worry about since it's easy to get the latest price of your dream vehicle as per your region on the autoX website.
