If you're a quilt maker who makes multiple quilts at once, you can also hang unfinished quilts on a shelf.

If you need to dry your blanket, you can take the rack outside. After washing the quilt, this item can be used as a drying rack.

## 1.3 Step by step to build the aerial ladder

When I first started making these DIY ceiling ladders, I wanted to see some ceiling ladder ideas first. After searching for a while, I knew I was going to copy the ladder quilt stand I had seen earlier in the Pottery Barn catalog, and knew I could get it for less. Just a second ago (literally) I was looking up prices online so I can blow your mind how much you can save yourself.

I ended up taking my socks off because their wooden ceiling ladder was $249 and mine was less than $10!

Step 1: Chop the Wood

Cut a 5-foot piece of wood from each 8-foot piece so you have two 5-foot pieces.

Cut four 18-inch pieces of wood from the remaining wood. (These must be very precise.)

Step 2: Arrange the Parts

Put them on the ground to make a ladder. I have 12" spacing, but 18" from the floor and only 6" at the top so I can actually hang a blanket over the bottom rail.

Step 3: Glue the Pieces Together

Apply a little wood glue to the end of each rod and screw from the outside of each side piece straight down the middle of the end of each rod.

Step 4: Draw the Ladder (Optional)

Dye it the color of your choice, let it dry completely and dry (so it doesn't stink on your house or ceiling).

If you decide to stain your ceiling ladder, finish it with a clear coat if you think the stain might get into your ceiling.

## 1.4 How to choose a ceiling mount?

Here are some things to consider before buying:

weight

Depending on the material and fabric used, the blanket can get heavy, preventing the thin frame from working.

Choose wisely, as several wooden quilt stands are poorly constructed and many won't hold up.

Quilt weight may vary based on size, material quality, and quilting, but expect to weigh between 4 and 6 pounds.

It's a good idea to check the load-bearing characteristics before buying ceiling mounts online.

When hanging quilts and curtains, make sure it's sturdy enough.

This is especially true if you're considering using the towel rack as a ceiling hanger.

Because they are lighter than blankets, the maximum weight of towel rails can be lower.

size and height

Make sure the width and depth of the shelving you are buying is suitable for the area you plan to place.

It is also important to take into account your height. It shouldn't be very short.

If the blanket is large, you will need to fold the blanket a few times until it hangs properly and doesn't touch the floor.

Due to its size and ability to fill the shelf, only one blanket can fit on it.

Material

Typically, quilt stands are made of wood or metal. Types of wood are fairly common as they are suitable for most ornaments.

However, metal shelves may be more durable than wooden shelves, and may be slightly more expensive.

Type of wood:

While there are several variants of ceiling shelves, the wood floor-to-ceiling variant is probably the most popular.

Typically, they are 4 feet long with multiple poles that cross each other to support the ceiling.

The advantage of this type is that many quilts or blankets can be hung on the rack by the number of poles.

Metal Type:

Like other types, metal frames work similarly. They often allow for more elaborate designs to look good when presented.

Also, they are sometimes more durable than wood.

## 1.5 FAQ - How to make a ceiling ladder?

FAQ - How to Build a Ceiling Ladder

Can I hang multiple quilts on this ladder?

It depends on the width, weight and volume of your quilt. A quilt stand might be a better option because it's wider. If your quilt is twin size, light and flat, a quilt ladder should do just fine.

The floor below is smooth. How to prevent a ladder from slipping?

You can install soft self-adhesive non-slip rubber pads on the bottom.

How can I prevent a ladder leaning against a wall from scratching?

Have a few felt pads on the back where it meets the wall (like you would put under the legs of a chair) and you're done!
