Here's what else you need to know about cooling blankets, along with our pick of the best ones on the market.

## 1.2 What is a cooling ceiling?

Unlike regular blankets, cooling blankets are not designed to keep you warm. Instead, they help regulate the temperature under the bedding, allowing you to sleep comfortably throughout the night.

## 1.3 How do cooling ceilings work?

Typically, cool blankets are made from lightweight natural fibers such as bamboo lyocell, eucalyptus, and linen, which are breathable and help release body heat rather than trap it. Typically, these fibers are also moisture wicking.

Some cool blankets are made from fabrics that are cool to the touch.

## 1.4 What to consider when choosing the best freezer ceiling

Cooling blankets are designed to protect users from overheating and sweating. It should definitely be soft on the skin, but there are other considerations like weight, type of material and ease of cleaning.

Height and weight

Cool blankets come in a variety of sizes, from comforter blankets that are only 40" x 50" to standard bed size blankets including Crib, Regular, Queen, and California King. Weights vary widely, from lightweight blankets that weigh just a few ounces to cool blanket options that weigh as much as 20 pounds.

The bulk of the weighted blanket comes from tiny glass beads that give sleepers the feeling of being held or snuggled. However, they are not suitable for pregnant women, children under the age of 5, or anyone who cannot easily move under the weight of a 12- to 30-pound blanket.

For optimal cooling, use blankets in conjunction with cooling sheets, cooling mattress covers, and cooling pads.

type

Quilts, comforters, duvets, bedspreads and comforters can help keep users dry and comfortable. Most cooling blankets fall into the "traditional" category, but there are others.

Traditional: This type of cooling blanket uses a specific type of fabric and fabric that draws moisture away from the body so the user doesn't wake up in a lot of sweat. Moisture transfer and breathability are important properties of blankets, they do not promote sweating or heat build-up. Some traditional cooling blankets can also be made from standard materials, but with a thinner fabric or finish than usual.

Air Cooling: This revolutionary blanket combined with a small air conditioner moves cool air between the blanket's baffles, keeping users dry and sweat-free. Only a few air cooling blankets are available.

Things you may interest: electric blanket

Outlast Technology: Developed for NASA, Outlast - a thermoregulation technology - features tiny microcapsule beads called "thermomolecules" that absorb excess body heat when the user begins to overheat, then release it when body temperature drops. Cooling blankets with Outlast technology can help menopausal women with intermittent hot flashes.

material/substance

Breathable and moisture-wicking fabrics are most likely to contribute to a comfortable night's sleep.

Lycra is a synthetic fiber that gives fabric elasticity and is the main reason sweat sticks to the body. Avoid blankets that contain Lycra, and look for blankets made from the following materials.

Cotton: Cotton is the most popular of all fibers, naturally absorbing sweat and promoting airflow close to the user's skin during sleep.

Bamboo: Bamboo is one of the softest fibers that wicks away moisture, promotes airflow, and doesn't stick to the skin like some fabrics.

Tencel: Also known as "Lyocell," Tencel is the brand name for a material developed by the manufacturer of the same name. It contains natural cellulose fibers that provide breathability and softness to the skin.

Polyester: As the only synthetic fiber on the list, polyester absorbs moisture quickly and provides better breathability and softness when combined with cotton.

Eucalyptus: A natural cellulosic fiber, eucalyptus fiber is extracted from the bark of the eucalyptus tree and processed into an ultra-soft microfiber that feels heavenly on the skin and provides airflow and moisture wicking.

Linen: Derived from the flax plant, linen is strong and quick-drying, making it the first choice for cool fabrics. The downside of linen blankets is that they tend to wrinkle, but are smoother when mixed with other fibers.

Knitting and weaving

Generally speaking, the looser the fabric, the less heat and sweat the blanket will absorb.

See also: Throw vs Blanket: What’s the Difference?

Knitting: This refers to a fabric made by tying yarns into loops, as long as its fibers belong to the aforementioned fibers, resulting in a stretchy, soft fabric that feels cool to the skin.

Weaving: Fabric is made on a loom with vertical and horizontal overlapping of yarns. These fabrics are cooler when the weave is looser, such as B. Premium Bond. Satin fabric is a soft material, but with a tighter weave, it absorbs moisture more easily and causes sweating.

Additional features

While you can find the cooling blanket that best suits your needs based on material, size and weight, many manufacturers also offer special add-ons for added comfort and ease of use.

Electricity: An electrical outlet is required to operate an air-cooled ceiling. A small air conditioner sits under the bed, and air hoses run from the unit to the ceiling above to keep cool (non-cold) air in the fabric circulating over the sleeper. Air-cooled ceilings are often also equipped with heated air.

Wi-Fi Capability: The electric cooling blanket can be controlled via a Bluetooth connection for quick temperature changes or the ability to change the temperature on both sides of the bed. Some options also include auto-on to activate cooling before the user goes to sleep.

Easy to clean: Many cooling blankets can be washed in cold water and then tumble dried on a low temperature. Check the label on the blanket for additional instructions such as B. Needs dry cleaning or drying.

## 1.5 Our top picks

Cool blankets should be comfortable and help with airflow and circulation. The following cooling blankets are suitable for every preference and are considered the best on the market today.

1

Slumber Cloud Lightweight Duvet

This Slumber Cloud duvet feels cool right out of the box. It features Outlast technology: tiny microencapsulated beads called Thermocules that smooth out temperature changes throughout the night. When your body temperature rises, it absorbs excess heat and then releases it as your body cools.

In action (aka testing), Slumber Cloud performed very well, which is why it took the top spot. One of our testers was also prone to overheating in the winter. She tested the duvet with and without a duvet cover and found that it wicked moisture well and breathed well. It has a comfortable weight and warmth but prevents users from waking up feeling sticky and wet.

It has a 300 thread count duvet cover and corner loops for the duvet cover. Materials are certified to the Oeko-Tex 100 standard, so you know they are free of over 400 potentially harmful chemicals.

The quilt box does a great job of evenly distributing the filling during use and washing. We washed and dried it with a normal household machine without any problems. The only downside we found was that it wrinkled very much after washing and drying. Of course, if you're using a duvet cover, that's not a problem.

Dangtop Cooling Blanket

Best Choice for Cold Top: DANGTOP Cold Top

View current prices

Dangtop blankets are lightweight and easy to carry in your purse. The bamboo cloth was cool to the touch and we noticed it as soon as we took it out of the box. It also has a nice drape that hangs over the body for a slight warmth. Our testers found it to work as both a duvet and a sofa.

Dangtop cooling blankets are soft and have a fine texture. The fabric improves overall breathability while maintaining a balanced level of warmth.

It can be machine washed or hand washed. We opted for machine wash and it worked fine in our washing machine. However, the dangtop needs to be dried, which is a bit tricky if you don't have a clothesline. We hung it on the shower curtain rod and it took hours to dry. It's not the most convenient drying option, but it works.

Climate Comfort Sleeping System BedJet 3

Best cooling blanket BedJet3

Check current price

For the ultimate in air-conditioned sleep, check out BedJet 3. All we can say is wow. BedJet features a mini air conditioner that can be hidden under the bed rather than relying on fabrics or pads for cooling. You can control the temperature from your smartphone (WiFi required) or remote control. Also, WiFi is required to set up the remote. Then you can use the remote control without the app.

A lightweight vacuum hose connects the BedJet to a specially vented cloud sheet (sold separately). You can even order a dual-zone cloud gauge to set different temperatures with your partner, but you'll also need his expensive second BedJet device. The Cloud Sheet has multiple openings where BedJet hoses can be attached. Rather than blowing air directly over your body or between your topsheet and duvet, the sheet wraps around you.

I tested BedJet with and without Cloud Sheet. While the Cloud Sheet is of high quality and concentrates the air well, we found the BedJet to be just as effective and easily controlled as a regular sheet.

BedJet offers amazing temperature control whether cooling or heating. I tried two methods. Ample adjustment options are provided for a comfortable night's sleep in warm or cool conditions.

Via the app, you can set a bio timer that automatically adjusts the temperature at night. You can also use the control to set the runtime. You can also set the temperature in degrees and adjust the fan speed. We were impressed with the BedJet's excellent control over our sleeping environment. It can be a little noisy at max fan speeds, but other than that it's great.
