Who Can Use The APEGS CBA System

If you are planning to prove your engineering or geoscience competency convincingly to attain professional registration, then you must be familiar with the APEGS CBA. If not, then read this blog.

Here, we will tell you who can use this system, and how to use it. The better you know these things, the easier it will be for you to prove your engineering competency.

Who can use the APEGS competency-based assessment system?

For Engineering:

Competency-based assessment (APEGS CBA) came into operation on January 1, 2019, for engineering candidates in Saskatchewan. The transition from the former, paper-based experience report to the CBA is below:

This system shall be used by:

1.  Engineers-in-training registered with APEGS on the date of January 1, 2019, or after that, and

2.  Engineers-in-training registered before January 1, 2019, who have not provided any experience reports in the former paper-based system by January 1, 2019.

All engineers-in-training who are registered before January 1, 2019, who have provided one or more experience reports in the former paper-based system by January 1, 2019, can continue in the former system or move to CBA. These engineers-in-training are encouraged and invited to move to APEGS CBA.

For Geoscience:

This system came into operation on January 1, 2021, for geoscience applicants in Saskatchewan (Canada). The transition from the former, paper-based experience reporting system to CBA is below:

The system shall be used by:

Geoscientists-in-training registered with APEGS on or after January 1, 2021; and

A geoscientist-in-training registered before January 1, 2021, who has not given any experience reports in the former paper-based system by January 1, 2021.

All geoscientists-in-training registered before January 1, 2021, who have provided one or more experience reports in the former paper-based system by January 1, 2021, can continue in the former system or move to CBA. These geoscientists-in-training are motivated and invited to move to APEGS CBA.

How to report work experience in the APEGS competency-based assessment system?

Reach https://comeptencyassessment.ca.

Pick the ‘Applicants’ section.

Strictly adhere to the instructions that appear on the screen.

Create your account with your APEGS Registration/Application number as your User ID.

You have to choose ‘Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan’ as your jurisdiction.

You will get a mail notification on the approval of your account. All this may take up to 5 business days. These accounts get approval manually M-F 8:00 to 5:00.

Access the CBA by choosing ‘I am a registered user and would like to access the Competency Assessment System’.

Start entering your information adhering to the instructions on the screen. At this time, your educational information doesn’t show in the system.

If having any problems with the system, contact the APEGS authority.

After the evaluation of your experience, you will get the result by mail. If you don’t pass it the first time, you will get the opportunity to redo any competencies that didn’t fulfill the requirements.

You should get your assessment result within a period of 6 to 8 weeks after the completion of all validations. In the case of having your validator unacceptable, APEGS will let you know, and the validation process will have to be redone for an APEGS competency assessment.
