Framework Of APEGS CBA

The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (Canada) Competency-Based assessment helps judge the competency of an engineer before they get a licence to practice engineering in the country. It is a transparent and efficient way of assessment that came into operation after the May 2018 Annual Meeting of the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC). From the 1st of January 2019, the EGBA adopted the APEGS CBA system for a professional engineer applicants.

The analysis is valid for all national and foreign engineers-in-training applicants. The pre-requisites for appearing for the APEGS Competency-Based Assessment in Canada include 4 years of experience as engineers-in-training (including a minimum of one year in Canada or a different geographical area whose environment is like Canada, and up to one year of pre-graduation experience.

Competency-Based Assessment framework:

There are seven categories comprising 34 competencies or skills under the CBA framework. All these 7 categories help determine engineers’ efficiency in ensuring public safety.

Under the Competency Rating Scale, you can score six levels of competence, ranging from 0 to 5. For a successful APEGS CBA in Canada, you should score a minimum value of 1 in each competency, and a minimum category average of 2 or 3, which is dependent on the assessment rules for ‘entry to practice. The following are the 34-skill bases or competencies:

1.  Ten skill bases of technical competence

2.  Three skills bases of communication

3.  Five skill bases of the project and financial management

4.  Two skill bases of team effectiveness

5.  Six bases of professional accountability

6.  Three skill bases of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

7.  Five skill bases of social, economic, sustainability and environment

Benefits of APEGS CBA:

There are many processes of observing and measuring traits, potentials, motivations, knowledge base and skill level of candidates. This defines their competencies in the market.

The competency-based assessment provides a candidate with a market advantage over their peers. The following are the CBA benefits:

·       Quantitative analysis execution for the candidates using a specific measuring technique. This technique is an integrated form of the current APEGS experience.

·       Provision of an explicit description and definition of the measurement tool for the analysis of the preparation of the candidate for a licence.

·       Transparent, objectified and consistent analysis of the candidates helps them gain confidence along with the assessors, employers and validators in the Experience Review Committee.

After telling you about the competency-based framework and its benefits, we advise you to hire an APEGS competency assessment report writing expert so that you can submit the whole application without any flaws to get a positive assessment.
