How To Have Fun In Quarantine

Like everyone fortunate enough to be able to self-isolate or quarantine until it’s solidly safe to socialize once again, we’ve been thinking a lot about how to make the best of our present situation, do more with less, and “stay safe and sane,” as every email signature now reads.

Stay calm

When you’re in quarantine, you’re going to be feeling a lot of emotions, but if you’re not careful, you’re prone to overreact to those emotions and make bad decisions out of fear or anger. It’s important to keep your wits about you and try to be levelheaded when you’re feeling particularly anxious. This can be especially important if you’re stuck in a room by yourself, because you may feel a lot of social anxiety just because you don’t have anyone else to talk to—even if you know your anxiety is irrational. (If you do feel anxious and make a decision you regret out of fear, don’t beat yourself up; just move forward and try not to do it again!)

Eat, drink, and be merry

There is a general feeling among humans that if you’re unlucky enough to be stuck in a room that you’ve been in for a medical condition, you will turn into a stereotypical swimsuit-wearing, vegetable-eating hermit. This is rarely the case, but once you feel up for it, consuming calories and drinking as much water as you can is an important part of staying healthy. Vitaminwater or Gatorade are both good options, and there are also special zero-sugar, zero-carb drinks that are especially good for diabetics. You’re not wasting your food or water by keeping yourself hydrated, and certain medications can make you more susceptible to dehydration so you’re not accidentally getting more medication than you need.

Games are great!

There are many different indoor games you can play when you’re stuck indoors because of a medical condition. Ping pong, pool, foosball, video games or online gambling (Pokies which free spin, BlackJack, Baccarat, etc..) are all easy to set up and play in your room. You’ll get your friends and family to come over to visit you and keep you company, and you can also use the downtime to catch up on homework (if you have any). Remember—this is a good opportunity to try to focus on your schoolwork, too, since you won’t be distracted by your social life. If you don’t have any friends who want to visit you, you can also use the downtime to catch up on homework.

Exercise your paws, too

You’re probably not in the best mood to be socializing, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be doing anything for your health. Even if you’re not in the mood for socializing, you can also create a safe environment for healthy living. Remember to take breaks from your computer, phones, or video games, and get up and move your body. Getting some exercise will make you feel better and allow you to focus on other parts of your life that might be getting neglected while you’re in quarantine.

Don’t forget the mental health aspect

You might be feeling anxious, isolated, and alone, but that doesn’t mean you should forget about your mental health in the process. If you feel like you’re becoming more anxious as time goes by, or if you notice that you’re becoming more irritable because you have nothing to do, you should speak with a professional. Anxiety and irritability can be signs of other mental health issues that need immediate attention. There are also many online forums, chat rooms, or even in-person meetups for those who are stuck in quarantine to connect with others and stay connected with the outside world without having to go through the process of making new friends. Remember that this isn’t the end of the world, and you can make it through this as long as you keep your wits about you.
